Meet, Dibley. This cheeky little chap has been a visiting the Hospital over the years for dental treatment by Moses Brennan.
Dibley had fillings replaced last month to prevent sinusitis, which was originally treated back in 2017. He occasionally requires the bridges to be replaced as his teeth constantly grow, the last time was 2 years ago, however regular checks have prevented recurrence of his sinusitis and meant he has not had to have any teeth extracted and remains in good health.
If you have any dental questions or would like to arrange an appointment with one of our vets, please contact the Hospital on 01653 69573.

Older horses often need extra support during the colder months to stay healthy and maintain condition.

Arthritis: Cold weather can increase stiffness, so gentle exercise and regular turnout can help.
PPID (Cushing's disease): If your horse has PPID, monitor their weight, coat changes and overall health closely.
Weight loss: Reduced grazing and higher energy demands may require extra nutrition.
Dental health: Regular dental checks help ensure older horses can eat comfortably.
Shelter & feeding: Provide shelter, good quality forage, and suitable feeds to keep
them warm and maintain condition.

With the right care, older horses can stay comfortable and thrive throughout winter.

Today, during World Animal Remembrance Month, we pause to honour the horses and cherished companions who are no longer with us.
As equine vets, we know the bond between a horse and their owner is unlike any other. Every horse leaves a lasting mark and saying goodbye is never easy.
We feel privileged to have been part of so many horses' lives, supporting them through every stage, from their first steps to their final moments. To everyone remembering a much loved horse today, please know you're not alone. Their memories, their personalities and the joy they brought will never be forgotten.
If you'd like to remember a special horse, we'd love for you to share their name and a favourite photo in the comments. Together, we can celebrate the incredible animals who have touched our lives.

🍂Did you know Atypical Myopathy is a risk in autumn?🍂

As the leaves fall, cases of Atypical Myopathy can increase in horses and ponies grazing pastures with sycamore trees. This serious and often life threatening muscle disease is linked to the ingestion of sycamore seeds, seedlings, or leaves, particularly during damp, windy autumn weather.
If you’re unsure about your pasture risk this autumn, speak to your vet team for advice.

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day🌈
Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we remember the horses, ponies and donkeys who have left lasting hoofprints on our hearts. They may no longer be by our side, but they'll never be forgotten.
If you'd like to, share a photo or tell us about the special horse you're remembering today.

As horses move into winter, an autumn dental check helps keep them comfortable and healthy.
Prepare for winter – Ensures efficient chewing as forage replaces grass.
Support weight & feeding changes – Helps horses cope with altered diets and maintain condition.
Improve performance – A comfortable mouth supports better contact and overall way of going.

A check now can help prevent problems later and keep your horse feeling their best through winter.

NEONATAL AND CRITICAL CARE EXTERNSHIPS – 2027 - LESS THAN 1 WEEK TO GET YOUR APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED

We are excited to announce that we are opening applications again for our neonatal and critical care externship program in 2027. You will live and work at the hospital for a month as a member of the referrals team (accommodation provided free of charge). The successful applicant will benefit by gaining experience and skills in the care of sick neonatal foals and post-partum mares, as well as close involvement in the diagnostic work-up and management of a variety of critical patients within our Intensive Care Unit. You will also participate in out-of-hours patient care and assist with emergency admissions. Opportunities may also be available to assist with ambulatory stud medicine work.
This position is suited to a hard-working, motivated individual who wishes to pursue a future internship or residency opportunity, a career in stud medicine or who wishes to increase their equine practical skills within the support of a hospital setting.
Due to the large number of applications received for 2026, we will be running two 4-week placements in 2027.
The dates are as follows:
29th March to 25th April 2027
10th May to 6th June 2027

Please submit a cover letter detailing your suitability for the post, along with contact details of one referee, who should be a veterinary surgeon.
Please submit applications to: [email protected]

The closing date for applications is 30th August 2026.
