❤️🎳Our third charity farmer’s skittles evening last night for the Cotswolds was held @ a new venue The Cheese Rollers Pub in Shurdington.

We had a lovely evening so thank you all for coming. It was nice to see farmers chatting , laughing & catching up with neighbours & friends off farm over a drink, great food & a very competitive game of skittles as always! Thank you to The Cheese Rollers for their hospitality.

After three rounds of skittles it came down to a play off of the top 5 scorers…….after a tense killer round our very own Farm Director Geth couldn’t be beaten even though clients & farm vet Soph gave him a good run for his money…..the bottles of w**e normally given as skittles prizes live to see another charity farmer’s skittles evening 😂🤣.

Thank you so much to everyone for your generosity as the raffle on the evening raised £155 to be divided between FCN & The DPJ Foundation 🥳🎉. The total so far for the three events is a fabulous £777.00 and hopefully we can add to this @ our final event - every penny will do great work in the farming community and is appreciated by both charities. ❤️🎉🥳

There was also a special presentation to The Clapton Family by farm vet Hannah of Prosecco, chocolates & a copy of our calendar as Nicky won the photo competition and her winning photograph features on the cover of our 2027 edition. Our thanks go to anyone who has purchased one so far this year.❤️

The final charity farmer’s skittles evening for 2026 is next Wednesday at The Anchor Epney Saul so we look forward to seeing you then. 🎳❤️

💜We had a great meeting on Friday of Wiltshire Women in Dairy at Great Lodge Pewsham by kind permission of The Wilson family and Bowden Park Farm Partnership.

It was lovely to see so many there where the topic of conversation was lameness.

We heard first of all from David Wilson who with his son Ben has started a share farming partnership from scratch running an organic dairy unit of jerseys at Great Lodge combined with beef & sheep enterprises elsewhere. He discussed their 5 year plan and the passion of their project was truly inspiring.

We then had talks from Jane and Rachel of Hoofcount discussing the various footbaths they produce - Standard, Excel & Robot with the features and benefits of each. They also talked about Pedivue a camera system positioned at the exit of the footbath which monitors each hoof of the herd daily & alerts the farmer/herdsperson to early signs of digi.

Steph from NoBacz spoke on their product range including Ambugreen and its application as a gel barrier in the non antibiotic treatment of lameness.

We were treated to a lovely farm walk with Paul the herdsman at Great Lodge and his wife Linda who are both passionate about the Jerseys they look after having worked with the same herd where they were previously.

Finally we heard from Tom @ AHDB (after some lunch of course thank you to our sponsors) who ran a quiz to test our knowledge around facts & figures connected with lameness. He talked about the Healthy Feet app, healthy feet programme and the lameness manifesto.

We had lots to think about and take homes from the day. We look forward to seeing you at the next Wiltshire Women in Dairy meeting 💜

We know you love to see what we’ve been up to recently, so here’s a little sneak peek behind the scenes at George Farm Vets! 🐄📸

1. Our newest team addition! Here’s Ben MJ doing an LDA surgery 💪

11. We’re always here for emergencies. Meg replaces this uterus in a prolapse case.

12. And here she is afterwards, feeling much better! Frog-leg position for the win 🙌

14. Interesting post-mortems: this liver is covered in microabscesses, highly suggestive of bacteraemic septicaemia as the cause of death 🔬

🎳We had another great evening last night at Horton for our second charity farmer’s skittles evening.

It was lovely to see so many of you there catching up with one another over a pint , skittles and some delicious food with a lot of laughter thrown in. Thank you so much Nicky for the catering and to Michael, Leon and Will for the warm welcome at the social club.

As in previous years there were some great skittles skills on display. Our overall winner after the tense play off was Andrew Millington with Colin Potter as a well deserving runner up🥳. Hope you enjoy your celebration over a glass of w**e or two!

The raffle held on the evening in aid of FCN and The DPJ Foundation raised a fabulous total of £390 🥳🎉so a massive thank you and our appreciation to everyone for their wonderful generosity and to those who bought our charity calendars as well.❤️

We would like to thank Zoetis for their support on the evening and for all the raffle prizes generously donated. See you all at The Cheese Rollers on Thursday 22nd for our next event 🎳

As we have had such a great time so far getting together over a game of skittles now the nights are drawing in (there are still two evenings at Cheese Rollers and The Anchor to go!)we thought why stop there let’s plan something for November! 😂

We have teamed up with Malmesbury YFC to sponsor a screening event for farmers of the acclaimed film Derek vs Derek. For those of you who haven’t seen a trailer yet here it is:

🐂We had such a great afternoon celebrating with Reuben & family their success in the Wessex South Devon herd competition.

Riding on the new tractor that had just arrived that day and trailer we were treated to a farm walk around the South Devons (we saw the Herefords as well who are also on the farm). The cattle all looked really well thriving in what has been a difficult grazing season for everyone and were a credit to Reuben. It was commented on how well the herd has progressed and the improvements that have been made over the last few years in breeding. 🐂

Presentations were the finale of the day and it looks like someone’s job will be polishing all that silver! Congratulations & thank you for allowing us to share your day 🥳🎉🥳🎉.

🐂🐄🐑🐖🧑‍🌾The moment you have all been waiting for the 2027 George Farm Vet’s charity calendar is now on sale @ £10 each. All proceeds will be split between Farming Community Network and Sunflowers Su***de Support.

We will have calendars for sale at our skittles evenings (thank you everyone who bought one @ our evening in Woodborough) or available to purchase from our farm dispensary so they can be sent out with your medicine orders. Give us a ring if you would like to buy one or more all for two good causes and they make excellent Christmas presents 🎁 🎄so we thank you on their behalf ❤️❤️❤️

Today is World Mental Health Day💚

Good mental health matters not only today but every day.Talking about mental health can feel hard but these conversations matter.

Who can I talk to, when and where should we talk, how do I begin, how much do I want to share and what if they react badly?

Conversations about mental health make a difference. And they matter most when we listen to people’s real experiences.

The best way to support someone is by listening to what they have to say. Find a good time and space, listen to understand,actively listen, ask don’t tell and check in regularly.

Many of us worry about saying the wrong thing but don’t let that be the reason we say nothing at all. A good place to start is by asking “are you ok?” then ask again as often you find out what is really going on the second time of asking and we all need to remember ‘it is ok to not be ok’ .💚

We are here to talk to and listen please always remember that whatever is on your mind.
