We hate to say that we are planning ahead to autumn and the darker nights drawing in!

With a summer that brought it’s own challenges and harvest being over it is now more important than ever to think about maintaining good mental health by getting together for a chat & some laughter over a pint , good food and a game of skittles.

Here is a save the date for this year’s charity farmers skittles evenings and you will see we are trying a couple of different venues this year so we hope to see you all there.

Food and first drink will be provided courtesy of Zoetis, Duggan Veterinary and George Farm Vets. As in previous years we will again be holding a raffle each evening in aid of Farming Community Network and The DPJ Foundation.

So we can plan catering for each event please let us know if you are able to come along- the more the merrier see you there 🍺🎉🥳

❤️Even with careful planning we can all find ourselves struggling with events that we had no way of knowing were just around the corner.

After last winter we all thought there would be plenty of food for livestock but who knew that a summer like this would mean we’d be feeding again in July? We’ve had some rain thank goodness but it will take time for things to recover. Bluetongue has also added to everyone’s stress as well.

For this reason we wanted to make everyone aware of the following grants from Addington Fund in addition to forage aid.

🐏🐑In its 11th year Love Lamb Week 2026 takes place from 1st to 7th September 2026. A chance to celebrate our sheep farmers, the landscape they farm and through the ‘make it lamb’ initiative to showcase British lamb.

The aim this week is to highlight the hard work of our sheep farmers, their high standard of livestock rearing and welfare, sustainability and to promote recipes using British lamb.

Torch Farm Vets - Farm Animal Services, another farm practice in North Devon and Cornwall have been dealing with extremely high numbers of Blue Tongue cases in sheep, they have put together some good advice for nursing them from what they have experienced.

Hopefully, a high vaccination rate will prevent this up in Wiltshire/Gloucestershire, but we are already seeing some cases, so we thought this would be helpful just in case.

❤️We appreciate that everyone is having a difficult time of it at the moment.

Summer has been great for silaging, harvest and groundwork as the hot summer days have meant that it has been easy to crack on with all these seasonal jobs.

However the lack of rain has brought fields that look like deserts with no grass and the silage or hay made is already being fed to stock to get them through these dry periods and the flies are doing their best to upset everything.

As if that wasn’t enough for farmers to contend with life has now thrown the worry and uncertainty of bluetongue. Your vet can help with advice on this and vaccine options.

We want everyone to remember that if you need someone to talk to we are always here to lend an ear whatever is happening on the farm so please pick up the phone, chat to us on farm or pop into dispensary for a cuppa. There are also many helplines just waiting for your call…..you are not alone & it is ok to not be ok. ❤️❤️❤️

Bluetongue virus continues to circulate, making it more important than ever to stay vigilant and recognise the early clinical signs in your livestock.

Know the signs, monitor your stock closely and report any suspected cases promptly.

Vaccination remains the best protection against Bluetongue. If you'd like to discuss vaccination or place an order, please contact our dispensary team who will be happy to help.

We had a great Wiltshire TBEG meeting by kind permission of the Sealy family @ Whitelands Farm.

The meeting was presented by our very own Ben Sellick.

Farmers , vet practices and other experts were in attendance to discuss advice being given to government on tackling bovine TB and new ways of thinking , the action plans being managed at farm level and the determination to manage TB within our cattle industry.

One thing that came to light during the meeting was how few farmers are taking advantage of having a TBAS visit.

A TBAS visit is a free, on-farm advisory service where a trained vet in this case Ben would assesses your farm for bovine TB risks and provides tailored recommendations to reduce infection.

A TB Advisory Service (TBAS) visit is designed to help farmers manage bovine TB (bTB) risks through practical, farm-specific advice tailored to your farm to reduce TB risk.

After the initial visit, you will receive a bespoke report summarizing the findings and recommendations.

A follow-up visit is scheduled 6 months later to review progress, assess which recommendations have been implemented, and provide further guidance.

🐄🐂🐑🐏🐖🐐Today from 5am for 24 hours marks a chance to celebrate all that is best in British Farming . This year it is happening a week earlier than usual so it can align with the BBC Farmwatch campaign.

For those who aren't familiar with it is a way to celebrate British farming over a 24 hour period via social media and the wider digital platform giving greater appreciation of life on the farm - a way to build trust and raise awareness.

This event has been sponsored by Morrisons since its launch in 2015 and is run by the Farmers Guardian. Each year farmers are encouraged to take to social media for one day to post videos and photos to show what they are doing that day. A day to show everyone the amount of care it takes to produce the food we all eat.

The theme for this year is 'more than farming' - farming is a way of life and we want to show how valuable it is to the wider community. ❤️
