Want to offer more Asian Fusion inspired grooms in your salon, but aren’t sure how to actually create the shapes you see online? ✂️🐩

On Sunday 1st November in Heybridge, Essex, I’ll be demonstrating 4 salon friendly Asian Fusion face styles LIVE, including the Princess Head, and breaking each one down step by step so you can take the techniques straight back to your own salon.

This isn’t about spending hours creating a competition groom. These are practical, pet salon friendly techniques designed for real clients and real appointment times.

We’ll cover:

Handstripping vs clipping… what’s the difference? 🤎🐾

This handsome boy is Rafferty, a young Border Terrier who is still learning all about the grooming process 🥰 We take things at his pace while he gets used to being handled, standing on the table and having his coat handstripped.

Unlike clipping, handstripping removes the dead outer coat from the root, helping to maintain the natural harsh texture, rich colour and weather resistant qualities of a Border Terrier’s coat.

You might also hear groomers talking about a coat being “blown” or “rolled” 👇🏼

🐾 A blown coat is when the outer coat has fully matured and is ready to come away. The dead coat is stripped out to reveal the fresh coat underneath, so you can often see quite a transformation!

🐾 Rolling a coat means handstripping more regularly. Instead of waiting for the entire coat to blow, we remove some of the longest mature hairs at each appointment. This keeps several layers of coat growing at different stages and helps maintain that smart Border Terrier look throughout the year.

For young dogs like Rafferty, regular visits have another benefit too. They get to learn that grooming is just a normal part of life, without expecting them to be perfect straight away 🫶🏼

Excuse me Jasper, but who gave you permission to look this cute?! 🥹🦁

Jasper the Persian came to Izzy’s Groom Room in Maldon for a lion clip, keeping his gorgeous fluffy mane and little boots while taking his body shorter for a much more manageable coat.

Persians have absolutely beautiful coats, but all that fluff can take a lot of maintenance. Regular cat grooming can help keep their coat comfortable and manageable, and for some long haired cats a lion clip can be a practical option, particularly when they’re prone to matting.

I absolutely LOVE doing lion clips, and I think Jasper is a pretty good example of why 😂 Just look at him!

It was such an amazing day, meeting, chatting and teaching everyone 🫶🏼 some of the messages I got after was meant so much ❤️

How gorgeous does Penny look after her groom? 🥹🐾

Penny the Cockapoo came to Izzy’s Groom Room for her freshen up, and just look at that little face!

Cockapoos are one of those breeds I absolutely love grooming, especially when I get to create a soft, fluffy teddy bear trim ✂️ I always tailor the groom to the individual dog, their coat and what’s going to be practical for their owner to maintain at home.

🐾 Think smooth coated dogs don’t need grooming? You might be surprised by what’s hiding in that coat!

This Pomeranian cross Jack Russell was absolutely loving their deshedding session at Izzy’s Groom Room in Little Totham, near Maldon. 🤍

Smooth and shorter coated dogs might not develop the obvious mats you see on longer coated breeds, but their dead undercoat can become tightly compacted. I like to describe this as the smooth coated dog’s version of matting.

When loose coat becomes trapped and compacted, it reduces airflow through the coat to the skin and can trap moisture, dirt and debris, potentially contributing to irritation and skin problems. A heavily compacted coat can also make it harder for their natural coat to work efficiently when helping regulate their body temperature.

That’s where professional deshedding comes in. 🐶

A proper deshedding groom helps remove all that trapped, dead coat, allows us to check the condition of the skin underneath and leaves their coat feeling so much lighter.

Deshedding smooth coated dogs is actually one of my favourite services at Izzy’s Groom Room, especially when I can add a mud mask into the groom. Seeing just how much dead coat comes out is ridiculously satisfying. 😂

🦷 This is why it’s worth thinking about your dog’s teeth while they’re still young.

This Cockapoo came in for teeth cleaning at Izzy’s Groom Room in Maldon, Essex, and the before and after shows just how much build up can already be sitting on their teeth.

Dog dental care isn’t only for older dogs. Keeping on top of plaque and tartar when they’re younger can help stop that build up becoming much harder to manage later on.
