It's not the breed. It's not the coat type. It's not even the dog groomer.

It's whether they've learned that being touched, held still, and handled calmly = nothing bad happens.

It’s that simple. Dogs who grow up getting their paws touched daily, their ears lifted gently, their chin
held for a few seconds at a time - they walk into a salon and think "oh, this again" instead of "what is
happening to me."

The dogs who struggle for years usually aren't struggling because grooming is inherently scary.
They're struggling because the first time they experienced any of it was on a grooming table, with a
stranger, all at once.

Your puppy's first groom shouldn't be their worst memory. But for a lot of puppies, it is - and
it's not because groomers are rough or dogs are "just difficult."

It's because most puppies walk in for the first time having never had their paws touched, never heard
a dryer up close, never been asked to stand still on a wobbly surface. Everything is new, all at once,
and their nervous system just… can't.

The dogs who cope best aren't the "easy" ones. They're the ones who've had a head start - a bit of
paw handling here, a buzzing toothbrush there, a towel wrap for 30 seconds while they get a treat
and exposure visits to a dog groomers.

None of it needs to be perfect. It just needs to happen before that first appointment, not during it.

We really do love your dog and our job.. But here's what's makes our job 10x harder and
what’s *actually* going on behind the scenes 👇

1. Matted coats "because we forgot to brush". We're not judging you - we promise. But severe
matting can mean shaving right down to the skin, which isn't the look you booked in for, and it's not
comfortable for your dog either. A quick brush a few times a week saves everyone the awkward
conversation.

2. Being told "he's never done that before" after he absolutely has. We get it, it's embarrassing. But
telling us upfront means we can groom safely and actually help - not get caught off guard mid-clip.

3. Cancelling last minute, over and over. Life happens, we're not precious about it once in a while. But
it messes with the routine your dog actually needs, and it's often the dogs who get cancelled on the
most who struggle the most at their next visit.

None of this is said to make you feel bad - it's said because a groomer who can be honest with you is
a groomer who's actually looking out for your dog and not just watching their profit margins.

✨ Isn't afraid to say "not today" if your dog's stressed, even if it means rebooking

✨ Explains why they're doing something, not just that they're doing it

✨ Has a calm, tidy salon - chaos in the space usually means chaos for the dog

✨ Asks about your dog's triggers, past experiences, and quirks before you even sit down

✨ Celebrates the small wins with you (first full groom without a break, first nail trim without a fuss)

We get asked this question a LOT.. and the simple answer is.. Because we're not just here to
make them look cute.. we're building trust that has to last their whole life.

A first groom that goes too fast can turn into years of a dog who shakes, panics, or has to be
muzzled every single visit. Nobody wants that.. least of all us.

So instead we go slow: we start with exposure sessions.. short visits, lots of breaks, building up bit
by bit so grooming becomes something they can actually cope with, not something they endure.
