Sooooooo something I’ve been working on and keeping quiet! 🤫 🤫

I’m working on a brand new harness!!! Anti pull but comfortable! Something that becomes loose as soon as you take the pressure off the lead. Something that a dog won’t mind wearing!! 😊

At the moment it still needs fine tuning! So a way off. Just working on the prototype but watch this space!!!

First size will fit show line Labradors (as it’s based on my mums dog 🤪 ) which is perfect because they’re such strong pullers! 😂

So at the moment my fingers are sore from sewing all night and am waiting on the first professional prototype. 🪡

I see these guys so much!! This is This time for crate training/ a bit of isolation anxiety. Very common for all puppies to be honest and can take some time.

To be honest the quicker you can move past this phase the better! Ideally pair you crate training time with naps and do some work on impulse control and patience within the crate.

This looks like making them wait calmly for treats as you sit nearby or potter around the room. It builds trust that you’re not leaving and they’re safe.

Collecting from your home to work in your local park or driven to appropriate places to work on improving their behaviour.

Aimed at Pulling, Recall and of course Dog Aggression (happy for anything unusual such as fear of traffic etc. We work with all problems).
Any breed! As usual No dog 🐶 is banned with us.

Breaks!! What’s a break? How do we make break time? ☕️ 🍪

So I spoke about the importance of having short breaks in your training (and then carrying on afterwards instead of stopping for the rest of the day). But what does a break look like and how do we know it’s enough?

So when I start working with a dog 🐶 over pulling or separation anxiety I train as long as the dog is PROGRESSING. I stop when they don’t. They start to go backwards or stop improving. That’s when it’s time 🕰️ for a break!

🌳 If I’m outside it can look like a long lead or long line. I’ll switch leads and stop interacting with them. I’ll let them run about or sniff, anything they want really.

🏠 If I’m indoors, I leave them to go where they want. Often they want a 🚽 break! And a drink 💧 sometimes I’ll play tug or throw a ball 🥎 around too! It’s anything but training. They usually give a full body shake and get on with what ever they really want to do.

⌚️ I usually give 5 or 10 mins. I wait for them to lose interest in the environment, naturally come back to me (because they’ve realised the treat wagon has stopped!) or for them to visibly calm down and become softer to look at.

Then we start again. Same exercise, carried on. And now it will be easier again. They will progress again.

Training Breaks!!

👆👆👆👆 This. Is going to make your training three times as fast!

When training on a program, particularly for young dogs or severe problems, you’ll already know you can only do short bursts before their attention drifts or stress levels rise past hearing.

Have a break. Fair enough everyone knows that.

BUT…. 👀 did you know if you then carry on with your training after your dog will find it far easier. And easier again by the 3rd break!

Quick, fast, repetitive training with breaks means they can recharge and carry on learning.

Waiting hours or for the next day will be much slower progress. In all my sessions we have breaks, usually 5-10 mins, and then carry on. They make BIG changes because of them.

New “data” unlocked 🤡 dogs ARENT pack animals.

Yes there are actually people and trainers defending this nonsense. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Their mad argument is that wild street dogs don’t hunt together they scavenge (true similar to our foxes 🦊 they don’t bother hunting if there’s free grub)

But dogs are pack animals. They are social animals and… actually they do hunt if they’re taught. They can be taught by other dogs or humans! And it happens so easily.

My dog will drive foxes to me when she chases them and together we have successfully caught an injured crow 🐦‍⬛ and I never had to teach her it’s just instinct.

My labs growing up would work as a pack to bring down foxes on the land (not encouraged or taught!) they would instinctively circle and block them. And unfortunately dispatch them.

My greyhound would eat our chickens 🐓 when she was hungry (apparently I wasn’t feeding her enough).

Dogs do and would hunt. Together. As a pack. If they’re taught.

Make no mistake dogs ARE pack/ group animals and their relationships with each other and us are not simple.

(And yes they think we and them are the same animal human/ dogs… but that’s another argument for a different time)

Flicker is almost 12 years old!!! 🤯 but she moves as well as ever!
And it isn’t vast amount of supplements and painkillers either it’s just genetics!
