🐱 Why Should I Have My Male Cat Castrated? 💙

Castration isn’t just about preventing unwanted kittens—there are many health and behavioural benefits for your feline friend!

✅ Reduces roaming – Less likely to wander far from home, helping reduce the risk of road traffic accidents and getting lost.

✅ Less fighting – Castrated cats are generally less territorial, reducing the risk of injuries, abscesses, and diseases spread through bite wounds.

✅ Reduces urine spraying – Many male cats stop or significantly reduce urine marking around the home after castration.

✅ Calmer behaviour – While your cat will still have their unique personality, they may become less driven by hormones and more content at home.

✅ Prevents unwanted litters – Helping reduce the number of unwanted kittens entering rescue centres.

If you have any questions about neutering your cat, we’d be happy to help. Give us a call to discuss the procedure and what to expect. 🩺

Sadly, we have had a deceased male tabby kitten (6-7 weeks old) brought in by a member of the public. He was found along the Lenham road area between Wents garage and Fairbourne lane. He is not microchipped and has a white chest. If you believe he could be yours, please get in touch.

🐶 Bringing Home a New Puppy? Here's What They Need From a Veterinary Perspective! 🩺❤️

Welcoming a new puppy into your family is exciting, but making sure they get the right veterinary care from the start is essential for a happy, healthy life.

✔️ Health Check – Book a veterinary examination as soon as possible after bringing your puppy home. This allows your vet to assess their overall health and discuss their care plan.

✔️ Vaccinations – Puppies require a course of vaccinations to protect against serious infectious diseases.

✔️ Parasite Prevention – Regular treatment for fleas, ticks, worms, and other parasites is an important part of keeping your puppy healthy and protecting your household.

✔️ Microchipping – Ensure your puppy is microchipped and that your contact details are registered and kept up to date. This greatly improves the chances of being reunited if they become lost.

✔️ Nutrition & Weight Checks – Feed a high-quality puppy diet and monitor growth with regular weight checks to ensure healthy development.

✔️ Behaviour & Socialisation – The first few months are a critical time for learning. Safe socialisation and positive training.

✔️ Neutering Advice – The best timing for neutering depends on your puppy's breed, s*x, size, and individual needs. Your vet can help you make an informed decision.

✔️ Pet Insurance – Consider arranging insurance while your puppy is young, before any health conditions develop.

A great start sets your puppy up for a lifetime of good health. If you've recently welcomed a new furry family member, we'd love to help guide you through every stage of their journey! 🐾💙

Say Hi to Bailey! As you can see Bailey was absolutely not letting go of his chosen toy on this day 😂. Bailey is a regular visitor and comes in for monthly pain relief injections. We love him so much!

🐶 Could your dog be in pain? They can't tell us with words—but they do show us in other ways.

Watch for these signs:

🐾 Limping or stiffness
😔 Hiding or acting withdrawn
😟 Whining, panting, or trembling
🍽️ Loss of appetite
🚶 Reluctance to walk, jump, or play
👅 Excessive licking
😠 Unusual aggression or irritability
👀 Changes in posture or facial expression

Dogs are experts at hiding discomfort, so even small changes in behavior can be important. If your dog seems "not quite themselves," it's worth paying attention.

❤️ Early recognition can make all the difference. If you think your dog may be in pain, contact us for advice.

🐾 Why spay your female dog? 🐾

Spaying is more than preventing unwanted litters — it can provide important health and welfare benefits for your dog.

✨ Health protection
• Helps prevent pyometra, a serious and potentially life-threatening womb infection.
• Removes the risk of ovarian and uterine cancers.
• Can significantly reduce the risk of mammary tumours, especially when performed at the right time.

✨ A happier, easier life
• Prevents seasons (heat cycles), including bleeding and the stress of attracting male dogs.
• Eliminates the risk of accidental pregnancies.
• Prevents false pregnancies and the discomfort they can cause.

✨ Supporting animal welfare
Spaying helps reduce the number of unwanted puppies and gives more dogs the chance of finding safe, loving homes.

Every dog is different, and the ideal time to spay depends on factors such as breed, size, age, and health. Our team is always happy to discuss the best option for your pet. 🐶💙
