🐾 DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH A FARM, STABLE OR SMALLHOLDING? PLEASE TAG THEM! 🐾

We’re searching for safe outdoor homes for cats who cannot cope with life as traditional pets.

These cats have survived beneath sheds, behind businesses and around dangerous town-centre sites. They may never become lap cats—but they still deserve safety, regular meals and somewhere to belong.

We need:

🐾 Farms
🐾 Stables
🐾 Smallholdings
🐾 Vineyards
🐾 Rural homes with suitable outbuildings

Working cats need a secure shelter, daily food and water, and a safe location away from busy roads. In return, they’ll patrol your land and quietly become part of your world.

We’ve already watched rescued outdoor cats begin wonderful new lives in vineyards, gardens and outbuildings. Now we need more people willing to give cats like them that same chance.

Ashford & South Kent Cats Protection can loan a complete outdoor-cat setup for the first two weeks and provide full introduction support from our dedicated volunteer team.

Obviously extra points for photos or videos 😍

Some people ask me why I let Dot rip apart toys… it’s what she likes best about them. If I give her a toy just to ‘play’ with independently but didn’t let her rip it up she’d leave it alone and have zero interest in it. I think this video speaks for itself, she’s certainly happy when shredding.

And as a youngster if I didn’t provide her with things she was allowed to shred then she’d be on the look out for something to fulfill that need on her own. And this often looks like our dogs choosing to shred things we’d really rather they didn’t. There’s no reason why we can’t give our dogs safe and suitable outlets to do the things they enjoy best.

DONT PANIC - you won’t encourage more of this behaviour in unwanted situations. But we do have to provide guidance on when and what they are allowed to fulfill these needs with so they don’t go self employed on items or in places we’d rather they didn’t 😆.

Oh and guess what - when your dog has their needs fulfilled the unwanted behaviours will happen less and less.

So don’t buy it when you’re told your ‘dog just needs to learn right from wrong’. The more we understand and support our dogs the ‘easier’ they are to live with because we’re not just expecting them to ‘behave’ 🧡

Yuuuuuuuup!

But do you know the difference?

Because the old saying goes… A tired dog is a happy dog but that’s only true if the dogs not just tired to the point of exhaustion. This could be due to stress, too much exercise, too much stimulation etc. etc. there’s always so much to consider.

More exercise isn’t always the answer but guess what…. Sometimes it is!

Sometimes more exercise creates a fitter dog who still has the same struggles, can exacerbate unidentified physical pain, can fill a dog with more adrenaline and leave you in exactly the same position or worse.

Sometimes more exercise fulfils a need they can’t fulfil on their own.

Sometimes they need more sleep, less stimulation. But sometimes they need a fulfilling walk.

Whatever it is that they need has to be worked out by us. And if you’ve been here a while you should know by now it’s not going to be a quick fix. But when we know, we can make progress 🧡

But I know only too well it’s not always that simple. So if you need a hand I’m here to guide you and support both you and your dogs.

⚠️RECALL ALERT: YEARS RECALLS ALL FRESH DOG MEALS⚠️

Years has announced a voluntary recall of all Years fresh dog meals with immediate effect.

The decision follows a growing number of reports of dogs developing sudden bilateral dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or KCS) whilst fed the food.

According to Years, its investigation has identified a potential link with buckwheat, an ingredient used in all of its fresh meals since the start of this year.

If you currently feed Years
Stop feeding all Years fresh meals immediately.
Do not feed the meals to any other animal.
Follow Years' guidance regarding the recall, refunds and collection of unused food.

Symptoms to watch for
If your dog displays any of the following symptoms, contact your veterinary surgeon as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of permanent damage.

Redness or inflammation of the eyes
Thick eye discharge
Frequent blinking or squinting
Pawing or rubbing at the eyes
A dull, cloudy or dry appearance to the eye surface

It’s a drum I’ll keep banging 🥁 😴

Sometimes your dog really does need a decent nap.

Before you add another walk, another training session or another enrichment activity have a think about whether they’ve actually had enough rest.

Tired dogs can be bloody hard work and feel at times impossible to settle, that’s not uncommon. If you’re feeling stuck and don’t know where to start feel free to send me a message and we can have a chat to see if I could be the trainer for you.

Progress isn’t always obvious.

Sometimes progress looks like your dog recovering from a situation quicker than they used to. Maybe they choose to move away instead of reacting. They might start being able to cope with something they couldn’t before or maybe they just simply have less really s**t days.

It doesn’t always look or feel like a big breakthrough but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

So here’s a reminder for you to always look at the bigger picture, and maybe keep that diary so you can track the progress when you feel like it isn’t there.

Training your dog/s should fit your actual life. Not the life you think you should have.

Not the perfect routine you saw on socials. Your actual life.

Because if the plan doesn’t work for you, you’re probably not going to stick with it.

Putting a plan together that really works for you is one of my passions. I never want to set unrealistic or unreachable goals for you and your dog/s. I’m not here to create a plan that I think should work because it’s how I would do it.

I’m here to figure out the best forward plan and goals for YOU and YOUR dog/s all whilst guiding you and supporting you with everything I know. Adjustments can be and will always be made to plans as and when we need to because what’s the point in having a plan you cannot follow…

But I will help you set realistic expectations and support you to believe we can achieve and maybe even exceed them 😉 🧡

You can love your dog and still find them bloody hard work.

It doesn’t make you a bad owner and it doesn’t mean you love them any less.

Dogs can be hard work, hard to live with at times. You’re allowed to say it and you’re allowed to feel it.

Remember. Life’s definitely better with a dog!

But please don’t feel stuck or alone. If you’d like to like your dog a little more often and want some help making that happen reach out.
