Reggie’s story ❤️
Last July, our team responded to one of the most urgent and heartbreaking emergencies.
We received a call from a distressed owner whose 4-year-old dog, Reggie, had suddenly collapsed while chasing his ball in the park and had stopped breathing. Without hesitation, Reggie’s owner bravely began performing CPR.
3 of our nursing team immediately collected some emergency supplies and drove straight to the park. For 8 minutes — the time it took our team to arrive — Reggie’s amazing owner continued CPR and showed incredible determination and love. CPR is physically and emotionally exhausting, and in clinical settings teams usually rotate every two minutes to prevent fatigue. For Reggie’s owner to continue for another 8 minutes is a truly remarkable effort and a testament to their determination.
As soon as the team reached him, one of our nurses took over, quickly assessing the situation, directing the rest of the team, while continuing CPR. Reggie was placed into the car and rushed back to the clinic, with CPR ongoing throughout the journey. A very kind member of the public ensured Reggie’s owner was driven safely to us.
At the practice, efforts to resuscitate Reggie continued, but despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to bring him back.
In the days that followed, we received many calls from members of the public who had witnessed what happened in the park and were wondering how Reggie was. We are incredibly grateful for their concern and kindness for Reggie and his family.
The whole team was deeply affected by this loss, and our hearts remain with Reggie’s owners. Their courage and quick actions gave Reggie the very best chance possible in an unimaginable situation.
There had been no prior signs or indications that anything was wrong.
We are grateful to Reggie’s family for allowing us to share his story, and we hope it highlights both the importance of acting quickly in an emergency and the deep bond we share with our pets.
Run free, Reggie ❤️ 🌈 🐾 🐾
