🌱Grass seed season is here 🌱

These tiny, arrow-shaped seeds act like one-way needles, easily piercing your pet's skin, paws, eyes, and ears. Because they only move forward, they can burrow deep into tissue, causing painful abscesses, infections, and even migrate causing internal organ damage.

Common Warning Signs
🐾Paws: Sudden limping, excessive licking, or a painful swelling between the toes.
👂Ears: Intense head shaking, scratching at the ear, or holding the head to one side.
👀Eyes: Swollen, squinting, or watery eyes, often accompanied by rubbing with a paw.
👃Nose: Sudden, violent sneezing fits or a clear or bloody discharge.

How to Reduce the Risk ⚠️

🌱Avoid Long Grass: Keep dogs on paths and away from tall, drying meadows during peak summer months.
✂️Trim Feathered Fur: Keep the hair around your pet’s paws, toes, and ears trimmed short to prevent seeds from clinging.
🐕‍🦺Do Post-Walk Checks: Thoroughly check your pet's coat, underarms, groin, and between their toes after every single walk.
🪮Brush Regularly: Grooming your pet after outdoor time helps brush away loose seeds before they can burrow

If your pet shows any of the above signs, please contact your vet for advice.

Beautiful Dachshund Cacau visited the practice today for some routine dental care 🥰

Did you know that up to 80% of dogs have dental disease by age three? 🐾

It is not just about smelly breath. Poor dental health can secretly hurt your dog and even damage their vital organs. 🦷🐕

Why is regular dental care important for your pet?

The Eating Myth: Many owners think eating means no pain. In reality, dogs have a survival instinct to eat through severe toothache.

Hidden Pain: Your dog might chew on one side, drop food, or just become quieter.

Bacteria Buildup: Plaque on teeth contains millions of harmful bacteria.

Bleeding Gums: Inflamed gums create an open path into the bloodstream.

Organ Damage: Bacteria travel through the blood, settling in the heart valves and kidneys and can cause permanent damage.

Our vets and nurses are happy to advise owners on how to care for their pets teeth 🪥 🦷☺️

Lola came to visit our nurse clinic today for her routine 6 month health check 🩷🐰
Health checks play a valuable part in preventative health care for our pets
In addition to a nose to tail health check, we were able to spend some time discussing in more detail health conditions that commonly affect rabbits and answer questions from her owner.
Gut stasis can affect rabbits of any age, and is often secondary to another illness.
As a prey species, rabbits are great at hiding disease which often means it is difficult for owners to detect until it is advanced.
Signs of the condition include a reduced appetite and reduced faecal pellets being produced as well as changes in behaviour. It is important to seek veterinary advice immediately.
We are pleased that we could give Lola a clean bill of health today, and hopefully some peace of mind for her owner 🥰🐰
