🎉🎉🎉PAWS is 20 years old 🎉🎉🎉
In all those years how many times have people said this to me 😂
Dog walking? You just get paid to walk dogs all day. How fabulous and how hard can that be?”
If only it were that simple… 😂🐾
There’s so much more to this job than people see.
There are the early mornings, the endless rain, trench foot, freezing fingers and can’t feel your toes, blazing hot days and mud glorious mud absolutely everywhere plus the lovely things that dogs love to eat or roll in and then the physical toll that builds up over the years.
There’s the massive responsibility of having someone else’s precious pet in your care and making sure they are safe and happy.
Then there’s everything that comes with running the business itself.
Driving from one place to another. Roadworks, Fuel. Insurance. Vehicle repairs. Unexpected breakdowns. Keeping on top of bookings, messages, cancellations and changing schedules.
And the admin… SO much admin! 🤣
And ALL the laundry & cleaning!! 🤣🤣
People see the walks, but they don’t see the hours spent organising everything behind the scenes.
They don’t see the days when you’re exhausted or sick but still have dogs depending on you. Or the worry when one of the dogs is poorly. The risk assessments prior to every walk, the stress when something unexpected happens. The guilt when things don’t go quite to plan.
And sometimes, if you do this long enough, it catches up with you.
Burnout is very real.
But then you have those moments that remind you why you started in the first place.
The excited faces and barks when you arrive. The wagging tails. The wagging bums. The cheesy grins. The zoomies. The splashing in huge puddles. The muddy paws. The characters you get to know so well. All the quirks.
And all the cuddles too 🤗
The putting together of dog groups that just work so amazingly.
Teaching a puppies recall and socialising them watching their confidence grow.
Helping a nervous dog come out of their shell and watching them gradually improve and play with others.
The strong bonds you make with them and the friendships you build with clients over the years.
It might look like “just walking dogs” from the outside…
…but anyone who actually does this job knows there is so much more to it. And that’s just the dog walking side.
It’s b****y hard work. You need true dedication. It can be exhausting, stressful and incredibly demanding.
But it is also one of the most rewarding jobs in the world and those pure joy moments make it all so worth it and that’s why we love it so much.
And that’s why after 20 years PAWS is still doing the job we love and we so appreciate all our clients and fur babies❤️ 🐾
Thank you all so much for being part of our 20 years journey 🙏❤️❤️
