Glamorous poo post 😂

💩 Changes in poo can sometimes be the first sign that something is not quite right.

L👀k at;
💩 Consistency - formed/soft/watery/hard/dry
💩 Colour - has this changed?
💩 Frequency - are they going more or less often?
💩 Mucus/blood/parasites - all worth mentioning to the vet!!

❓Did you know?
💩 Lots of dogs start the day with a very formed or harder poo and then can get looser throughout the day. This is because the first p**p sits in their colon through the night waiting patiently for their first walk of the day!

🎆 Fireworks might still feel a looooong way off. But if your pet struggles with them then now is the time to prepare.

☹️ Fear of fireworks can get worse over time, and helping an animal become less frightened isn’t really something we can do on the night.

START NOW
➡️ Create a safe place where they can retreat - and don’t bother them when they are in there.
➡️ Start a familiar noise routine (such as Classic FM) for your pet in the evenings, so it doesn’t feel odd to them in October.
➡️ If your pet gets super worried, they can start to begin nutraceuticals (such as Nutracalm) to let the levels build up before the noises start. Speak to your vet about this.

❓ What should I bring to a vet appointment?

♥️ any medication your pet is taking, or a photo of it
♥️ photo or name of the food they are on
♥️ videos of any unusual behavior (in case they don’t do it in front of us!)
♥️ a list of their symptoms
♥️ some of their favourite treats (in case they need bribing)
♥️ small pets in their own carrier
♥️ dogs on their lead
♥️ if your pet is especially nervous, please let us know in advance - we may be able to help!

♥️ There are FOUR stages to a season for entire female dogs ♥️

1️⃣ PROESTRUS - swelling of the v***a, bloody discharge, more interest from male dogs, and changes in behaviour - such as being more affectionate or restless.
2️⃣ ESTRUS - this is the part we describe as ‘in heat’ - oestrogen levels fall, progesterone levels rise, and ovulation starts. The discharge becomes lighter, pinky or straw-coloured and she may seek out males, and she will allow mating. Estrus averages around 9 days but can be anything from a few days to a few weeks.
3️⃣ DIESTRUS - she stops being receptive to males, but progesterone levels remain high, whether she is pregnant or not. We would not want to spay her at this point, as this can exacerbate or bring on pseudopregnancy.
4️⃣ ANESTRUS - this is the quiet bit between cycles, when the ovaries are relatively inactive and the uterus is small. Anestrus occurs approximately three months after estrus and blood supply is much lower to these areas, so this is the optimum time to spay.
