Dachshunds.. 😁🥰🐵
What can be said about them that hasn’t been said?
These cuties were a family of Daxies I recently helped with; and there were more too! All of them different; and all mischievous and very appealing!

The number one issue I’m contacted about with Dachshunds is… can you guess..

BARKING! 💥📣😂

No surprise there; they were bred to let their owners know where they were while out hunting.. yes these little pocket fireballs were bred to hunt.

The thing is.. there is a difference between barking and excessive barking.
Something is excessive if it makes us feel uncomfortable (or drives us crazy in other words!) , if it disrupts others peace, or doesn’t stop and keeps going without any apparent reason.

To your cute Daxie (and let’s face it they are cute!) there will be a reason to them; no dog barks because they want to be a nuisance.

They can also struggle with separation anxiety sadly- another issue I’m regularly contacted about; they’re a breed that get very attached to their owners; are protective, and can and will become territorial if allowed to be; these guys and girls mean business; they are very strong willed ❤️

These cuties below were little barkers with visitors to the house, people on the street, other dogs you name it.
When there are a few dogs in the household, they naturally form a pack (like humans!) and it becomes harder for owners to control; however it can also be extremely satisfying to have a pack; we just need to make sure we’re on it; a little more than if we had just one dog!

If you have a Daxie or any other breed, that you’re struggling to quieten when you ask, maybe the more you ask the more it seems to bark!
Or perhaps it seems like it barks at nothing; and you feel you’ve tried everything, which is what a lot of my clients say;
or perhaps you love your dog so much but have started feeling you cannot have them anymore because of their antics 🙈

Do you have a cheeky monkey 🐒🐵

Maybe you have a dog that guards you from a partner, guards a favourite seat, or perhaps a member of the family can’t hug you without your dog becoming agitated, even aggressive 🤯

It can begin as a bit of fun; we may even laugh when they do it.
After all; who isn’t flattered when their dog seems to be so attached to us, they become jealous (or what we perceive to be jealousy)
The problem is, this behaviour can escalate from being a little growl; or perhaps the dog moves to ‘own’ an area of the home as theirs
As funny as this can seem to begin with, please don’t ignore it; it won’t go away and could start impacting other areas of their behaviour; I’ve seen it.

Do you have a dog that seems to want all the attention and tries to get in on the act😁
Or maybe your dog has worried you when they’ve growled at a partner or maybe a member of the family; and it might only happen when you’re around 🥴

It may be out of character; or it may be a regular occurrence.. whatever it is; there will be a way to solve the problem and prevent it from happening (apart from getting a new partner of course.. unless you want to 😂😉)

Do you know a dog like this.. 😂

I think we’ve all had a mischievous defiant dog at some point (I’m currently owned by one right now 😁)

Joking aside it can be frustrating, also dangerous if our dogs constantly don’t listen to us
If it’s more than mischief, we end up keeping them on the lead at all times, even in an area where they’re safe to run around, for fear of them running off, or the drama that goes with trying to get them back 😕

The problem is, it can become a vicious circle, sadly 😖
We don’t let our dogs off because we say they don’t listen; then they become unruly or frustrated due to lack of adequate exercise and interaction; biting their lead, lunging at other dogs, even possible aggression toward us their owners.
I’m not saying this happens all the time; but I have seen it happen with many dogs I’ve worked with.

And the worst thing is; when this is happening the owner isn’t getting the amazing relationship or joy they can get, from owning a dog and walking with them.
It becomes stressful and not enjoyable 😕

So they quite often stop taking their dog out at all.. which isn’t the best thing either; though I understand why so many admit to this.
It can be stressful having a dog that constantly goes deaf let’s say.. when we call it.

If you are owned by a dog that does the deaf thing, let me know!

And we’ll see about altering the hearing aid so they listen to you 🙏😂🫶🏼

Well how cute a picture is this! 😍

The Retriever is my old girl ‘Honey’, the child is the daughter of a lady we met on a walk up at Bispham; she was nervous when she saw how “big” Honey was and said her daughter was scared of dogs.

Does the child look scared?
Her Mum thought all dogs were aggressive; perhaps from a past experience 😕
⭐️Sometimes without knowing our own fears are put on our children; AND indeed our dogs.
Retrievers were bred to be ‘people pleasers’ to be biddable kind and gentle. They usually adore children and are very patient.
⭐️PLEASE NOTE however, our children must be taught to respect our dogs not to taunt them and always ask if a dog likes to be stroked, as some don’t!
Just like us, some like their space and they can be a little wary of children, children can be loud and make sudden movements, some dogs aren’t comfortable around them and are actually scared 😕
⭐️It’s our responsibility as decent dog owners to socialise our dogs with children as early as possible so they are as relaxed around them as they can be ❤️
⭐️Also, to try and teach our children how to behave around a strange dog.
⭐️No patting on the head please! This can be deemed as a threat in the doggy world.

But one of the best bonds that can ever be created and enjoyed is between a dog and a child.

Let’s talk.. Puppies… 😍❤️❤️

And you can’t get much cuter than these two 🥰🐾

These clever little monkeys were 2 in the same household I recently helped with.
Nothing major just a little check to help reassure and advise
That’s sometimes all I do; but it can mean a lot to anyone worrying about whether they’re doing the right thing with their pooch, even just someone to listen without judgement 👌⭐️

A lot of my clients have been first time dog owners; it’s been overwhelming for them knowing what to do with all the info out there and a lot saying the opposite to others 🤷🏽‍♀️😐

However exposing your puppy to a variety of people, places, and things in a positive and controlled manner is the best way forward.
Good socialisation means allowing your pup to explore the world without pushing them outside of their comfort zone - try not to force a situation if you can help it 🙏

Distance can really help.
Above all, keep calm and don't worry

Border Collies… 😍❤️❤️

Anyone who’s known me since I was a little girl, knows I was brought up with this amazing breed; then going on to have my own- Storm and Georgia, two sisters.

Storm and Georgia were my life. By choice.
We went everywhere together- at the time I was working as a mediator in children’s homes and they used to calm the teenagers down; that’s some feat 😂)

This breed wouldn’t be happy with a walk to the school gates and back everyday.
Nope.

If you currently have a Collie and are struggling, read on..
⭐️Do you ever feel that everybody else's dog is better behaved than yours?
⭐️Were you led to believe that Border Collies were so intelligent and easy to train that yours must be the odd one out?

The fact is Border Collies were bred to work and some struggle living in more urban environments if they don't receive the right training and understanding; depending on their line.
They are intelligent and learn quickly but they learn both wanted and unwanted behaviours just as easily if we are not already one step ahead.
And sometimes 2 steps ⚡️💯😂
Most unwanted behaviour seen in this genius breed is due to what they were bred for. By understanding how your Border Collie sees the world, your world with them will open up; and you’ll probably never want another breed. Fact!
If you have ever said any of these things to yourself...
⭐️I seem invisible to my dog as soon as we leave the house.
⭐️I wish I felt safer on walks and I didn't have to hang on tight every time a car passes.
⭐️It is so embarrassing when my dog reacts to dogs, children or joggers.
⭐️I wish I could hoover without being attacked.
I think he has a faulty off switch.. 🥴

firstly remember you’re not alone in feeling frustrated or even feeling like a rubbish dog owner; and your dog isn’t broken I promise!

Is this you 🥹🐾

Sometimes when I speak to new clients, they are often at their wits end because of their dog’s behaviour; separation anxiety being a common problem
🐶They want the barking to stop when they are gone so the neighbours stop complaining 🐶
🐶they want to stop the door from being destroyed so they don’t have to spend money replacing it or they are tired of cleaning up the mess every time they come home 🐶
🐶they put off going out or leaving the house at all; putting off shopping trips or other essentials, unless someone is in the house with the dog 🐶

Some breeds are more prone to separation anxiety; but they can all be helped ❤️

However.. could we accidentally be making things worse.. we’ve all done it with our dogs; we have ALL made mistakes it’s part of learning what works; and our dogs forgive us (thankfully!)

But if you’re really struggling with your dog’s anxiety particularly when you leave; maybe putting off leaving at all; or maybe you end up taking your dog with you wherever you go, perhaps you feel guilty leaving them.. we’ve all been there too!

Dogs are very clever.. they can get round us so easily (guilty as charged 🤣)
But if we want to help our dogs we need to understand or TRY to understand why they do what they do.

And it’s easier than you think I promise ❤️🐶

Have you got one of these…

A Frustrated greeter! 🐶🐾🎯

Otherwise known as oi look at me or don’t leave without saying hello or just simply hey it’s playtime 🥳😂🐾

Usually quite a happy go lucky dog, full of fun (and mischief 😉) but can be a little full on with their initial interactions; which often results in very few dogs wanting to play or interact with them 😕

So you end up keeping them on the lead.. totally understand why.. but it doesn’t solve the problem it can actually make it worse
Think about it.
Your dog likes to mix with other dogs and enjoys playing with them.
You let them off.. they go charging upto other dogs (or people) so excited; you love them being happy but you just can’t deal with the what if’s (and I hear this a lot from clients) so back on the lead they go.

Which results in more frustration; for both of you.
Which is not what we want.

Can you imagine having a dog that plays with other dogs but also doesn’t have to greet every single one they meet; in fact actually ignoring them?
Yes they know they’re there; but hey they’re so cool about it; whether they’re there or not.

Sound good?
It can be done I promise.

We over complicate things
Whereas dogs think logically and simply.
Lucky them eh?
