❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

Some people are getting flowers…
Some are getting chocolates…

And some of us are spending it with 1,200lbs of love who thinks carrots are romantic. 🥕

If your Valentine has four legs, muddy hooves, and costs more than your first car, you’re in the right place.

Wouldn’t have it any other way. 🐴❤️

Prioritising Comfort, Balance, and Healing with Corrective Shoeing 🐴 🔨

This horse was recently diagnosed with inflammation in the coffin joint and collateral ligaments, so comfort and support were our top priorities 🤍

To help with recovery, we fitted a pair of unclipped roller shoes. By rolling the outside web of the shoe, we’ve allowed the foot to break over and land more naturally. This helps reduce resistance through movement, limits unnecessary strain on the joint, and softens concussion, all small changes that can make a big difference to comfort and long-term healing.

No two horses are the same, which is why thoughtful, tailored farriery is so important. The right support can help keep horses comfortable, balanced, and moving as happily as possible.

📩 If you’d like to know more about corrective shoeing, lameness support, or how farriery can help your horse, feel free to message, always happy to chat.

🔨 🐎 The Importance of Regular 6–8 Week Shoeing & Trimming 🐴

At MG Farriers Ltd, our priority is keeping your horse comfortable, balanced, and performing at their best. One of the most effective ways to support this is by maintaining a consistent 6–8 week shoeing and trimming schedule.

A horse’s hoof grows approximately 6–9 mm per month, and when too much time passes between appointments, the feet can become overgrown. This often means more hoof needs to be removed at once, which can lead to soreness and affect natural balance and movement.

Regular farrier care helps us:
✔️ Maintain correct hoof balance and alignment
✔️ Reduce strain on joints, ligaments, and tendons
✔️ Ensure shoes continue to fit and support the hoof properly
✔️ Prevent cracks, flares, and hoof distortion
✔️ Promote long-term soundness and overall comfort

Occasionally, horses may need to be seen sooner than the six-week mark, as recommended by veterinary professionals or your farrier. Certain conditions, hoof issues, or changes in workload can make shorter intervals essential for maintaining comfort and hoof health.

However, we do not recommend any horse go longer than 8 weeks between appointments. Extending beyond this increases the risk of imbalance, excessive hoof removal in one session, and potential post-shoeing soreness.

Consistent farrier visits allow us to make small, controlled adjustments that protect your horse’s long-term hoof health and wellbeing.

If you have any questions about your horse’s trimming or shoeing schedule, please feel free to get in touch — we’re always here to help.

MG Farriers Ltd – Professional, reliable hoof care you can trust.

🎄💛A Big Thank You From Us 💛🎄

🎄✨ Can you believe it’s only a 26 days until Christmas? ✨🎄
The run-up is flying by, and we’re now nearly at the end of our working year!

Just a reminder that Martin will be off from the 23rd of December until the 2nd of January.
If your horse needs seeing before we finish for Christmas, please get in touch as soon as possible — availability is extremely limited.

Wishing all our clients and their horses a warm and happy Christmas season! 🎅🌟

🎄 Yes, it’s only October… but somehow the Christmas rush has already begun!

Our diary fills around 6–8 weeks in advance, and spaces are going quickly.
We’ll be taking a well-earned break from December 23rd to January 2nd, so make sure to get your horses booked in before we hang up the tools and grab the mince pies! 🎅✨

Don’t worry though — we’ll still be contactable every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day for any emergencies that may arise. 🐴💪

💚 World Mental Health Day 💚

Horses have an incredible ability to reflect how we feel — calm when we’re calm, gentle when we’re kind, and responsive when we’re open.
That’s why they’re often used in equine-assisted therapy — helping people manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress through connection, trust, and movement.

Being around horses encourages us to slow down, breathe, and become more aware of ourselves. Their quiet strength reminds us that healing takes time, patience, and care.

But while horses can help us feel, it’s equally important to talk.
If you’re struggling, please don’t face it alone — reach out to a friend, a loved one, or a mental health professional.

We all need support at times — and there’s strength in asking for it. 💛
