⭐ Meet the handsome Star! ⭐

Star popped in to see us for his second vaccinations today and was an absolute superstar! He was super relaxed and couldn’t get enough of the Lick-e-lixs 😋

And just look at those stunning eyes! 😻
Star has heterochromia, which means each eye is a different colour. It’s a completely natural and beautiful feature that makes him one of a kind ✨

With the current heat wave, please take extra care when bringing your pets to appointments this week. If possible, travel in an air-conditioned car and avoid walking dogs to the practice during the hottest parts of the day.

For cats and small pets travelling in carriers, placing a cool damp towel in the bottom of the carrier will help keep them more comfortable on the journey.

With temperatures soaring across the UK, it’s important to keep our pets safe, cool and comfortable in the heat ☀️

Here are our top tips for keeping your pets protected during the current heatwave:

🌗 Walk early or late in the day – avoid the hottest part of the day and stick to early morning or evening walks. If it’s too hot just skip the walk completely!

🐾 Check the pavement – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws

💦 Provide plenty of fresh water – at home and on the go

🌥️ Make sure there’s shade and somewhere cool to rest – especially if your pet is outside

🔥🚙 Never leave your dog in a car – even for a few minutes, temperatures can rise dangerously fast

🐶 Be extra careful with brachycephalic breeds - flat faced breeds like French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Pugs are already at a higher risk of breathing problems and any rise in temperature will only make these problems worse

🤒 Watch for signs of heatstroke – excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbliness or collapsed

🚨 If you are worried your dog may be suffering from heatstroke, contact us immediately on 01594 840404. Heatstroke is an emergency and early treatment is vital!

With an extreme heat warning in place for this week it’s important to protect your dog from the heat 🤒

Act early. Heatstroke is an emergency.

Hot weather can become dangerous for dogs quickly, so knowing what to do could save their life.

Signs of heatstroke can include heavy panting, drooling, restlessness, bright red or very pale gums, and lack of coordination.

If you think your dog is overheating, remember: cool first, transport second.

Move them into shade or a cool, well-ventilated space. Offer small amounts of cool water, but don’t force them to drink. Pour cool water over their body and create a breeze with a fan if you can.

Avoid covering them with wet towels, as this can trap heat. Once their breathing starts to settle, take them to a vet practice immediately and call ahead on the way.

Act early. Heatstroke is an emergency.
