💉 HOW TO STORE YOUR VACCINES OVER WINTER ❄️

It is important to correctly store and handle vaccines so that they remain effective.

• Only buy vaccines from a reputable source which offers a cold chain guarantee when vaccines are in transit.
• If collecting the vaccine yourself, transport it in a cool bag and transfer to a fridge immediately. Layer some insulation, like bubble wrap, between the vaccine packaging and the ice packs to prevent freezing.
• Only use a fridge that you know is reliable and maintains a temperature between 2°C and 7°C.
• A thermometer should be kept in the middle of the fridge, and the temperature should be checked and recorded twice daily.
• Don’t keep the vaccine in the door shelves as the temperature here fluctuates when the door opens.
• To reduce door opening frequency, do not use the fridge for food and drink.
• Use the vaccine before the expiry date to guarantee effectiveness.
• Only buy enough doses for the number of animals you want to vaccinate at that time. Many vaccines once opened have to be used on that day as they do not contain preservatives.
• Do not draw up the vaccine into the syringe until needed.
• If spending the day vaccinating, be sure to have a cool box to store the vaccines in your truck, even in winter. Keep it in the passenger area rather than the truck bed to prevent temperature fluctuation.

Speak to your vet if you have any questions about vaccine handling and use.
