Please remember it’s ok just to be struggling - that does not mean you are failing!

Conversations with clients & vet colleagues across the country over the past few weeks have highlighted again how many people are struggling, whether that be because of;
Financial worries
Personal health worries
Livestock health worries - there always appears to be something
Relationship difficulties
Feeling inadequate

Remember you are not alone - many are in the same boat & by opening up about your concerns you may allow another to voice theirs.

Also there are completely independent charities that will listen and offer advice of where you can get help. To name a few LRSN, Samaritans, VetLife, FCN and many others.

My advice, for what it’s worth!, is remember that YOU are important so do something , however small, for YOU every day - walk the dog, sing, bake a cake, chat to a friend, watch your favourite thing on telly, play a sport or have a bath. That 30 mins of your time is golden (& the world won’t fall apart because you have 30 mins for you) - honestly.

Now is the time to start testing forage ready for winter feeding.

Did you know that lower conception rates in cattle can be caused by mineral or nutrient deficiencies?

By having your forage analysed you can:
• Ensure you are meeting the nutritional needs of your livestock. Nutritional needs vary depending on age of cattle, and whether they are growing, finishing or breeding cattle
• Create diets that include suitable nutrition, as if this is wrong it can cause issues with growth, fertility and overall health of animals
• Identify gaps in diets that may require supplementing

Samples should be taken as close to feeding as possible as feed quality will change as the year progresses. For example, if you cut it in May and plan to start feeding in the Autumn, take a sample mid-late summer. Re-sampling later in the season once you have started feeding is also recommended to ensure the quality and nutritional values stay the same.
