We now have an Amazon Wish List for our horses! 🤎

If anyone would like to purchase an item from our list, it would be hugely appreciated. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps towards the everyday care of the horses here at The Ark.

We have a range of items on the list, including:

🌾 Feed & treats:
• Bags of horse feed we use everyday!
• Sugar-free treats for our horses who need a low-sugar diet
• Salt licks for the horses to enjoy in their fields and stables
• Horse licks – useful for keeping the horses occupied during things such as farrier visits
• Supplements to support the individual needs of our horses

🪣 Everyday yard essentials:
• Haynets
• Feed buckets
• Large water buckets
• Lead ropes
• Shovels
• Sweeping brushes

🩹 First aid & general care:
• Purple spray for minor cuts and wounds
• Filta-Bac antibacterial cream
• Vet wrap – an essential item to keep stocked for minor injuries and first aid
• Hoof oil
• Mane & tail detangler

🪰 Fly protection
• Fly spray
• Fly masks in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large, providing suitable sizes for all our horses
• A 7’3 fly rug for our horse Polo – we appreciate that this is one of the more expensive items on our list, but we are currently in desperate need of a fly rug large enough for our huge boy to help keep him comfortable and protected from the flies 🤍

There are items on the list to suit a range of budgets, and anything purchased would make a genuine difference to us. From a bag of treats or a haynet to feed and everyday yard supplies, every item helps us continue providing the care our horses need.

We are looking for part time /holiday cover staff on stables . Must have experience and driving licence with transport as need to travel to field on village . Must be a good team member who is used to different ages of horses and confident . Hours at the moment are alternate Sat and every Sun 9-2 approx . please forward cv s to info@arkanimalrescue

Our Eva Diva back from the field for some rest after a minor leg injury 🧡

🐴 Farrier day for Penny & Polo! 🐴

Penny and Polo had their regular visit from the farrier yesterday and were both very good for their trims! 🤍

🤎 Meet Fudge 🤎

Fudge is our 18-year-old Shetland, and it’s safe to say he has one of the biggest personalities at The Ark!

He’s a very cheeky pony who always seems to be up to something. When he’s not sneaking past you in search of food, he’s often disappearing and then reappearing wherever he pleases. We always say we’d get some brilliant videos if Fudge wore a GoPro 24/7 😂

He knows exactly what he wants and can be a little bit naughty at times, but that’s all part of his charm, and it’s impossible not to laugh at the things he gets up to.

His best friends are Jet and Andy, and you’ll often find the three of them together. He also has a bit of a crush on Amy… although she definitely believes she’s out of his league! 🤎

Like many Shetlands, Fudge has had laminitis in the past and also has Cushing’s disease, so we carefully manage his diet. He has soaked hay, his grass intake is restricted, and he receives daily medication to help keep him happy and healthy. Thankfully, he’s doing really well and continues to enjoy life causing mischief with his friends.

🧡 Meet Nancy 🧡

Nancy is 6 years old and is a very sweet and curious girl who always likes to know what you’re up to, but she’s also quite wary and likes to take her time getting to know new people.

Nancy arrived at The Ark around four years ago after being rescued in quite a poor condition with her three-week-old foal, Frank. She was underweight, frightened and had put everything she had into raising her baby. At the time, she was even suspected to be back in foal again, making her situation even more worrying.

Thankfully Nancy was not in foal again and her life looks very different now. Frank has grown into a healthy young pony, and Nancy has regained her health and weight ☺️

She still finds handling a little overwhelming, and catching her in a headcollar isn’t always easy. We take everything at Nancy’s pace, helping to build her confidence and show her that we can be trusted. Every small step forward is a big achievement, and we’re so proud of how far she’s come.

These days, Nancy is the head of her own little herd alongside Sunny D, Annie and Java. Despite everything she’s been through, she’s grown into a lovely mare with a quiet confidence!
