Say hello to the gorgeous Silas 🐱✨

This beautiful Maine C**n recently came in to see us for his castration procedure and was an absolute superstar from start to finish 💙

With his stunning fluffy coat, giant paws, and calm, affectionate nature, Silas quickly stole the show. He took everything in his stride and enjoyed plenty of fuss and admiration from the team during his stay 🥰

Meet Caleb 💙

The first photo was taken when Caleb visited us in April 2024 as a brand-new puppy, full of curiosity and puppy charm. Fast forward just over a year, and he's back with us for some routine blood tests — and what a transformation!

From tiny pup to handsome young gentleman, Caleb has grown into such a beautiful boy. It's always a pleasure seeing our patients grow up, and comparing photos like these reminds us just how quickly time flies.

We think you'll agree he's turned into a very handsome good boy indeed! 🐶✨

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey, Caleb. We can't wait to see what the next few years bring.

⭐ Shoutout to Nick & The Team! ⭐

Check out this lovely feedback from one of our reptile clients, Sasha:

"Eddie [the leopard gecko] is stronger, healthier and brighter! His eyes are a lot clearer and he is gaining weight. A happy story amongst all the poorly animals you must see! Thank you again, especially a big thank you to Nick. He did everything he could for him..." 🦎❤️

Thank you, Nick, for your brilliant guidance with Eddie's treatment, and to the whole team for supporting our clients through the tough times. Keep up the incredible work!

🐾📍 June is also National Microchipping Month! 📍🐾

A microchip is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help your pet find their way home if they ever get lost. Unlike collars and tags, microchips are permanent, secure, and reliable.

⚖️ Did you know? Microchipping is now a legal requirement for both dogs and cats. Making sure your pet is microchipped — and that your contact details are correct — is essential for responsible pet ownership.

✨ Why microchipping matters:
• Greatly increases the chance of lost pets being reunited with their families
• Provides permanent identification if collars are lost
• Quick, safe, and no bigger than a grain of rice
• Gives peace of mind for pet owners

💡 Remember: A microchip only works if your contact details are kept up to date — June is the perfect time to check!

At Phoenix Vets, we offer microchipping and can help you contact your microchip supplier so you can keep your details up to date. Let’s keep our pets safe, secure, and home where they belong. 🐶🐱💙

📞 Contact us to book or check a microchip today.

June is Feline Hypertension Awareness Month 🐱❤️

High blood pressure in cats is more common than many pet owners realise — especially in senior cats.

Often called a “silent condition,” feline hypertension can cause serious health problems including blindness, kidney disease, heart disease, and neurological issues if left untreated.

Signs can be subtle, but may include:

• Sudden blindness or dilated pupils
• Increased vocalisation or confusion
• Changes in behaviour
• Increased thirst or urination
• Weight loss or reduced appetite

Regular blood pressure checks are an important part of senior cat wellness care and can help us detect problems early before complications develop.

If your cat is over 7 years old, has kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, or you’ve noticed any changes in their behaviour or vision, we recommend booking a health check with our team.

Early detection can make a huge difference in your cat’s quality of life 🩺🐾

🐾 How Acupuncture Can Help Your Pets 🐾

In house acupuncture with PetTherapy Veterinary Acupuncture & Integrated Pain Management - Carole 😊

Did you know acupuncture isn’t just for humans? This ancient healing practice is also used to support the health and wellness of our furry friends! 🐶🐱

Veterinary acupuncture can help pets with:
✅ Chronic pain (like arthritis)
✅ Mobility issues
✅ Neurological conditions
✅ Post-surgical recovery
✅ Anxiety and stress

It works by stimulating specific points on the body to promote natural healing, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation—all without the use of drugs.

If your pet is struggling with pain or other chronic issues, ask your vet if acupuncture might be a good

🌞 HEAT ALERT: A vital reminder from us!🌞

The heat is on, and while we all want to get our pets out and active, we must prioritise their safety above all else.

Remember this: A dog has never died from not walking. But they can, and will, die if walked in this heat.

Heatstroke is a serious emergency for cats, dogs, and small animals. It happens fast and can be fatal.

Know the signs to protect your furry family members:

🐕 For Dogs:
Excessive, frantic panting
Deep red, purple, or blue gums/tongue
Lethargy, weakness, or collapsing
Vomiting and diarrhoea

🐈 For Cats:
Rapid breathing and panting (rare but critical)
Drooling
Stumbling or lack of coordinations

🐹 For Small Animals (Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, etc.):
Lying down, unable or unwilling to move
Short, fast breaths
Wetness around the nose

Protect them this summer:

✅ Keep them in cool, ventilated areas.
✅ Walk dogs only in the early morning or late evening. Check the pavement; if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
✅ Provide plenty of fresh, cold water.
✅ Never, ever leave any pet in a parked car.

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, contact us immediately. Stay safe, stay cool! 🐾

☀️ 🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: Paws in the Heat! 🚨 ☀️

It is a scorching 33°C out there today, and our absolute priority is keeping your pets safe and cool.

If your pet has a routine appointment scheduled for today that isn't urgent, please, please consider giving us a ring to reschedule.

Flea and worming treatments can wait.
Vaccination boosters can wait a few days.
Routine general checks can easily be pushed back.

⚠️ High-Risk Pets
While the heat is tough on all animals, traveling right now is especially dangerous for:

Brachycephalic breeds (squashed-faced animals like Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs, and Persian cats) who struggle to cool themselves down.

Overweight pets who carry extra heat.

Senior pets who are much more vulnerable to heatstroke.

Traveling in this extreme heat can be incredibly stressful and hazardous. By postponing non-essential visits, you help keep these high-risk pets safe at home and free up our team to focus on heat-related emergencies
Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation! Stay cool, keep those paws off the hot pavement, and make sure there is plenty of fresh water to go around. 🐾💦

📞 Give us a call at 01509 270997 to reschedule.
