🎸 A Huge Thank You to Percy and the Piglets Fans!

We’ve received a wonderful cash donation via our volunteer Tracy, whose husband’s band Percy and the Piglets were performing at the Cherry Tree, Stakeford, over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The band’s fans were incredibly generous, and we can’t thank Tracy and her mum enough for collecting on our behalf. Your kindness helps us continue caring for hedgehogs in need, every penny makes a difference.

🍂🦔 Helping Hedgehogs this Autumn 🦔🍂

As the nights draw in and our little prickly friends start preparing for hibernation, here are a few autumn activities and reminders happening across Northumberland to help keep hedgehogs safe and cosy:

🍁 Community Hedgehog‑Friendly Gardening
Lots of local groups and residents are creating hedgehog highways, leaving leaf piles, and making gardens safer for wildlife. Autumn is the perfect time to:
• Leave a corner of the garden wild
• Check long grass before strimming
• Put out fresh water
• Offer kitten biscuits for underweight visitors

🔥 Bonfire Night Safety
From mid‑October, councils and wildlife groups will be sharing reminders to:
• Build bonfires on the day
• Check log piles for sleeping hedgehogs
• Move any stored wood before lighting
A simple check can save a life.

🏡 Hedgehog Houses & Autumn Nesting
Many people are putting out hedgehog houses ready for winter. If you’re doing the same, place them somewhere quiet, sheltered, and leave plenty of natural bedding nearby.

🌿 Wildlife Trust Autumn Events
Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s autumn sessions often include advice on making gardens wildlife‑friendly. Great for families and nature lovers.

✨ Hedgehogs are officially on the money! ✨

We’re thrilled to share that hedgehogs have been chosen to appear on the brand‑new GBP bank notes. It’s a wonderful moment of recognition for one of Britain’s most loved – and most vulnerable – little animals.

For everyone who works so hard to protect hedgehogs, from rescuers and rehabbers to gardeners who leave a gap in the fence, this feels like a real celebration of the species we care so deeply about.
