Meet the very handsome Teddy 🐾💙

Teddy recently visited us at Hackney Vet for the removal of a large lump, and we’re delighted to say he was an absolute superstar throughout his procedure. Such a lovely patient from start to finish, and a pleasure for our team to care for.

Lumps and bumps are something we commonly see, particularly in our older patients. While many lumps can be completely benign (non-cancerous), it’s impossible to know exactly what they are just by looking or feeling them. Some lumps can continue to grow, become uncomfortable, ulcerate, become infected, or in some cases be cancerous.

That’s why we always recommend having any new lump checked by your vet as soon as you notice it. Early assessment can help us:
✔️ Determine what the lump may be
✔️ Monitor any changes over time
✔️ Decide whether sampling or removal is recommended
✔️ Improve treatment options if the lump is more serious

As our pets get older, regular health checks become even more important. Catching changes early often means simpler procedures, quicker recoveries, and better outcomes.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Teddy as not only a patient, but as one of our amazing vets’ own beloved dogs! 🥰 It’s always a privilege to care for our colleagues’ pets, and we know Teddy is being thoroughly spoiled during his recovery.

Please join us in wishing Teddy a speedy recovery and plenty of treats and cuddles while he heals! ❤️🐶

🌾 Grass Seed Season is Here – Please Be Extra Careful on Walks! 🐾

As the weather gets warmer, grass seeds become a common hazard for our pets. These small, dart-shaped seeds can easily become lodged in your pet’s paws, ears, nose, eyes, or even under the skin, causing pain, irritation, and sometimes serious infections.

⚠️ Signs your pet may have a grass seed:

🐾 Paws
• Excessive licking or chewing at a foot
• Limping or holding a paw up
• Swelling, redness, or discharge between the toes

👂 Ears
• Head shaking
• Scratching at the ear
• Sudden ear pain or sensitivity
• Discharge from the ear

👃 Nose
• Repeated sneezing
• Pawing at the nose
• Nasal discharge (sometimes bloody)

👁️ Eyes
• Squinting or keeping an eye closed
• Excessive tearing
• Redness or swelling around the eye

🐕 Under the Skin
• Sudden lumps or swellings
• Draining tracts or persistent wounds
• Signs of discomfort or pain

After walks, especially in long grass, check your pet’s paws, ears, eyes, and coat for any grass seeds and remove them if visible.

If you notice any of the signs above or suspect your pet may have a grass seed, please don’t wait—give us a call as soon as possible on 020 8533 6554. Early treatment can help prevent more serious complications.
Opening Hours Monday-Friday 9am-6pm Saturday's 9am-1pm

Stay safe and enjoy your summer walks! ☀️🐾

🐾✨ A Special Visitor at Hackney Vet! ✨🐾

Meet the absolutely gorgeous Amon! 💙

It’s not every day that we get the pleasure of welcoming a Sphynx cat into the practice, so Amon’s visit was a real treat for the team. This handsome little boy came in for a dental procedure and, needless to say, he received plenty of extra cuddles, attention, and love from our nurses while he was with us. 🥰

🦷 Why are dental checks so important?

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in cats and dogs. Unfortunately, many pets can suffer from dental issues without showing obvious signs of pain. Regular dental examinations help us identify problems such as:
• Plaque and tartar build-up
• Gum disease (gingivitis)
• Broken or damaged teeth
• Oral infections
• Bad breath caused by underlying dental disease

Early detection can prevent discomfort, reduce the need for extensive dental treatment, and help keep your pet healthy and happy for longer.

🐶🐱 When should dental checks start?

We recommend having your pet’s teeth checked from a young age, ideally during their routine health checks as a puppy or kitten. Once your pet reaches adulthood, regular dental assessments should form part of their ongoing preventative healthcare. Senior pets, in particular, can benefit greatly from more frequent dental monitoring.

🎉 FREE Dental Checks Available Now! 🎉

We are currently offering FREE dental checks for your pets, giving you the opportunity to ensure their oral health is on track.

📞 To book your free dental check, please call us on 020 8533 6554 and our amazing reception team will be happy to assist you.

We look forward to seeing you and your furry family members soon! 🐾💙

🐾💚 A very special visit to The Hackney Vet today! 💚🐾

These gorgeous Belgian Malinois puppies came in for their first vaccinations and worming treatment, and they were absolute superstars from start to finish! 🌟

From curious little explorers to sleepy cuddle puddles, they handled their appointments brilliantly and won over everyone they met. 🥰

Their first vaccination is an important milestone, helping to protect them against serious infectious diseases while their immune systems are still developing. Vaccinations play a vital role in giving puppies the best possible start in life and helping them stay healthy as they grow. 💉🐶

Regular worming treatment is just as important. Puppies can pick up intestinal worms from their mother or their environment, and untreated worm burdens can affect growth, development, and overall health. Early and routine worming helps keep puppies thriving and reduces the risk of transmission to other animals and people. 🪱✅

For breeders, ensuring puppies receive their first vaccinations and worming treatments before heading to their new families is a key part of responsible breeding. It helps set each puppy up for a healthy future and provides new owners with peace of mind. ❤️

And of course, we can’t talk about Malinois puppies without mentioning their famous nickname… the “Maligator”! 🐊😂

Why are they called Maligators? Because if it moves, squeaks, dangles, or simply exists within reach, there’s a very good chance a Malinois puppy will try to investigate it with their teeth! Those tiny puppy nibbles and endless enthusiasm are the early signs of the intelligence, drive, and energy that make this breed so remarkable. Fortunately, today’s Maligators kept all nibbling to an absolute minimum and were perfect patients! 😆

We wish these beautiful pups all the very best as they prepare to find their forever homes in the coming weeks. We have no doubt they’ll bring endless love, laughter, and adventure to their lucky new families. 🏡🐾💕

If you've recently adopted, and would like to get the little one set up for the rest of their life or if you have any further enquiries, please give our lovely reception team a call today! 🥰 Opening times 9am-5pm Monday-Friday Saturday 9am-1pm
