Pet of the Month may no longer be on, but we all would love to see your pets.

We want to see your pets doing absolutely nothing productive.

It's September. The summer rush is over. The kids are back at school. And somewhere in your house right now there is an animal who has claimed the best spot on the sofa and has absolutely no intention of moving.

Show us. Drop a photo in the comments of your pet in their favourite doing-nothing spot. No competition, no voting, no prize. Just pets being gloriously, unapologetically lazy.

We'll be here all day saying hello to every single one. ๐Ÿพ

5 days left everyone!

We will be shutting on Tuesday forever. Even if you just want to pop by for chat, come on down before we close our doors.

Don't forget that we are running down of our stock in store, so if there is anything you need, get it now before it runs out.

We are unfortunately shutting shop here at Albany Park Pet Stop very soon, and will shortly not be getting any more stock in (unless already requested of course!)

Thank you to all of those who have popped in and shared your stories of us over the years and sadness of us shutting, we really have appreciated every single one of you and so thankful for all your support.

At the moment, we are planning to shut on the 15th of September, so please make sure you get in before that date.

Autumn is beautiful. It's also full of things that are quietly dangerous for dogs. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿพ

Here are a few to be aware of on your walks this month:

๐Ÿ„ Mushrooms and fungi: autumn is peak season. Most wild mushrooms are harmless but there some that are seriously toxic and it's almost impossible to tell the difference on a walk. If your dog is a forager, keep them close and move them on quickly.

๐ŸŒฐ Conkers and acorns: both of these are toxic to dogs if they are eaten. Conkers contain a compound called aesculin which causes vomiting, lethargy and in some serious cases - collapse. Acorns cause similar symptoms. This is worth knowing if you walk anywhere with horse chestnuts or oak trees, including Foots Cray Meadows and Danson Park.

๐ŸŒฟ Fallen fruit: fermenting windfall apples and pears can cause alcohol poisoning in dogs. Sounds unlikely but it happens more than people realise.

๐Ÿ‚ Wet leaves: can hide hazards and can carry mould which causes upset stomachs in dogs who eat them.

๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ Rat poison: autumn is when pest controllers are most active as rats seek indoor shelter. Rodenticide poisoning is a genuine risk. If your dog has been somewhere you think bait might have been laid and shows any unusual symptoms, call your vet immediately

Stay aware out there. And if you're ever not sure about something your pet has eaten, call your vet first, Google second. ๐Ÿพ

eptember reminder that nobody wants but everybody needs. ๐Ÿพ

Fleas don't disappear when summer ends. In fact September and October are still peak flea season in the UK, and as the weather cools, fleas move indoors with us. Central heating keeps them active well into winter.

A few things worth checking this month:

๐Ÿพ When did you last treat your pet for fleas? If you can't remember, it's probably time

๐Ÿพ Have you treated your home as well as the animal? Up to 95% of a flea infestation lives in the environment, carpets, bedding, soft furnishings, not on your pet

๐Ÿพ Is your worming treatment up to date? Fleas carry tapeworm larvae so the two go hand in hand

We stock a range of flea and worm treatments in store. Come in and ask us what suits your pet's size, age and lifestyle, the answer isn't always the most expensive option.

Well done to our August Pet of the Month Winner - Winston!

Winston is one of our youngest winners at 4 months old, and he loves ice cubes, blueberries and most of all, digging in the garden!

Well done to Winston and to Soph his owner for our last official Pet of the Month.

Thank you to everyone who has entered since this competition started earlier this year, it has been a pleasure to see all your furry companions and it has never been easy to pick a winner every month. We have loved all of your entries and thank you for making this competition so much fun.

There will be our final competition to celebrate Lesa's 10 year tenure here at the Pet Stop, which will be picked from ALL the entries since this competition begun.

Unfortunately we will not be holding a September Pet of the Month, so if you do send an entry in, there will be no prize to be won, but we will still share your pet on our stories.

Thank you again to everyone and well done to Winston.

The kids went back this week. The house is quiet. And your dog has absolutely no idea what happened. ๐Ÿพ

Separation anxiety spikes every September without fail, and it often shows up in ways owners don't immediately connect to the cause. Chewing, barking, following you from room to room during the last few days of the holidays, toileting indoors when they've been clean for years.

It's not naughtiness. It's a dog who had company all summer and suddenly doesn't.

A few things that genuinely help:

๐Ÿพ Don't make a big deal of leaving or returning, calm departures and arrivals reduce the drama around the door

๐Ÿพ Build alone time back up gradually before the routine fully changes, even ten minutes here and there helps

๐Ÿพ Puzzle feeders and licky mats give them something to focus on when you're not there

๐Ÿพ Calming supplements and diffusers work best when started before the anxiety peaks, not after

Come in and ask us what we'd recommend for your dog's specific situation. Not every product works for every animal and we'll always tell you that honestly. ๐Ÿพ
