🍂 Autumn has arrived! 🍂
The days are getting shorter, the evenings are drawing in and there’s a definite change in the air. But did you know that the change of season can affect our pets too?
🐶 For dogs, darker evenings and wetter weather can mean changes to their usual walks and routines. Wet leaves, wind, new smells and an increase in wildlife can all make walks a little more exciting — or sometimes a little more challenging!
🐱 For cats, cooler temperatures often mean more time spent indoors. Some cats will happily curl up somewhere warm, while others may need a little extra enrichment to keep them entertained when they're not out exploring.
🍁 A few simple autumn tips:
• Keep an eye on visibility as the evenings get darker — for you and your dog. Maybe invest in a reflective or light up collar?
• Check paws after wet or muddy walks and dry them thoroughly.
• Give indoor cats plenty of opportunities to play, explore and climb.
• Make sure outdoor pets have somewhere warm, dry and sheltered to retreat to.
• Remember that changes in routine can affect some animals more than others — especially those who are sensitive to change or elderly - have you noticed your older pet slow down in autumn?
And, of course, autumn also means Halloween, fireworks and lots of changes around the home, so it's a good time to start thinking about how your pets are coping before things get busy. 🎃✨
