😴🐶 How much sleep do puppies really need?

Puppies need 18-20 hours of sleep a day to grow those little bodies and brains. They are spending every waking moment processing loads and loads of new experiences, and learning how to navigate their world to hopefully grow into well behaved dogs, so getting a proper kip is one of the most important things for them.

Want a pup who naps like a champion AND knows their basics? I run puppy classes to cover training, socialising, and how to build a routine that actually helps everyone get some rest. DM for more information

"☀️🐶 HOT WEATHER = EXTRA CARE FOR OUR DOGS (and other pets too!)🐶☀️

The temperatures are soaring, and whether you enjoy the sunshine or not, it can be dangerous for our four-legged friends.

Here are some top tips for keeping your dog safe during the heatwave:

💧 Make sure fresh water is always available. If they aren't big on drinking water, add some extra to their meals, so they can stay hydrated.

🌳 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening, and check pavements with the your hand: if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them.

🏠 Provide plenty of shade and cool indoor spaces - try a cool pad if you have one, and if you have a portable air con unit, now's the time to set it up! If you need to leave them home alone, think about how hot their space may get, you may need to leave air con on, provide access to more areas or arrange for someone to come and visit them (this is also a service I offer, but asking a neighbour to pop in is a quick, easy and free solution!)

🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes, and in these temperatures, leaving the windows open won't help.

🏖️ Some dogs love to sunbathe! However, they aren't always good at predicting the effects of that and may only think to move inside when they're already uncomfortable, which in this heat could be too long. So, it's important to limit their time outside.

🥳 No dog has died from missing a walk. If you don't manage to get them out for a stroll and a sniff, try some training games at home instead! This is a great time to teach them a new trick - comment below if you'd like some ideas!

Look out for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse.

Stay safe and keep those tails wagging! ❤️

A pet visit might look like this: a calm cat, fresh water, a clean litter tray, everything quiet and settled. 🐱

Other times it’s topping up food, tidying up, offering some play time, or just being a gentle presence in the home to keep them company while their human is out or away.

For dogs that aren’t up for a walk, whether they’re recovering from surgery, older, or it’s just too hot to go out, a visit can be a really good alternative.

Cats, dogs, rabbits, geckos, or whoever else you share your home with - every animal’s different, so I tailor each visit to best suit them that day.

💧🐶 Why water matters for dogs 🐾

Just like us, dogs need fresh, clean water every day to stay healthy. Hydration supports everything from digestion to temperature regulation and joint health.

🔹 How much is enough?
A general guide is about 50–100ml of water per kg of body weight per day. That means a 10kg dog should drink around 500–1000ml daily.
(Puppies, active dogs, or those on dry food may need more - and hot weather usually means their needs increase too)

🔹 Tips for keeping your dog hydrated:
✅ Always provide access to clean water - especially after walks or playtime.
✅ Wash water bowls daily to prevent bacteria build-up.
✅ Bring a portable bowl when out and about.
✅ Watch for signs of dehydration: dry gums, lethargy, and excessive panting.
✅ If your dog isn't big on drinking water normally, think creatively - ice cubes to lick; using a different shaped container for water; try adding some water to their meals.

Remember - if your dog suddenly drinks much more or much less than normal, it's worth checking in with the vet.

💦 Hydrated dog = happy dog! 🐕❤️

🌼🐶 Did you know? Letting your puppy or dog explore natural environments like fields and meadows isn’t just adorable - it’s great for their wellbeing too!

When I take dogs out each day, I make sure we explore a variety of walks where possible - woodlands, beaches, open fields, quiet paths - so they get plenty of enrichment, new smells, and space to just be dogs.

Sniffing and exploring the natural world stimulates their brain, reduces stress, and helps them feel calm and happy. For puppies especially, it’s a safe and gentle way to build confidence and learn about the world around them. Even seemingly small things like encouraging them to explore in your own garden, or giving them a little extra time to smell the lamppost outside the house can be beneficial!

🌿 Just make sure any area you visit is dog-safe, pesticide-free, and keep an eye out for toxic plants like foxglove, daffodils, and lilies. And of course watch for any dangerous rubbish, such as chicken bones and broken glass.

Nature really is the best playground! 🌸🐾 Have a lovely weekend!

For dogs, a good walk isn’t just about burning energy, it’s about exploring, sniffing, processing the world.

That’s why I chose to focus on one on one walks. No rushing from point A to B. Just focused time that suits your dog’s personal pace and needs.

Walks can be tailored for older dogs, less confident dogs, sniffers, explorers, and more...

Hello! I've recently started dropping flyers locally to let people know that I’m offering dog walks (single household only) and pet visits in Ealing & Brentford.

I’ve already had a couple of great chats with local pet owners while out and about - really nice to meet you!

If you’re looking for a reliable, friendly person to care for your pets - whether it’s a dog walk, feeding visit, or just a bit of company while you’re out, I’d love to help.

I live locally, have two dogs of my own, and know how important it is to find someone you trust.

Feel free to message with any questions - or just say hi if you’ve seen one of my flyers! ~ Rosalind
