๐๐พ Keep Your Pets Safe This Christmas! ๐๐ซ
Christmas is a wonderful time to celebrate with friends, family โ and of course, our pets! But while weโre enjoying all the festive food, remember that some Christmas favourites can be harmful (or even toxic) to pets.
Young puppies and kittens are especially curious about all the exciting smells and tastes, so itโs important to keep dangerous foods well out of reach. With all the hustle and bustle, even the best-behaved pets might try to sneak a treat! ๐
Here are a few festive foods to avoid sharing with your furry friends:
๐ซ Pigs in blankets & gravy โ High in fat and salt, which can upset tummies and even cause pancreatitis (painful inflammation of the pancreas).
๐ซ Grapes, raisins & sultanas โ Highly toxic and can lead to kidney failure. Keep mince pies, Christmas pudding and fruit cake out of reach.
๐ซ Onions, garlic, leeks, shallots & chives โ Members of the allium family that can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and anaemia. Avoid giving pets stuffing or onion gravy.
๐ซ Leftover turkey bones โ Brittle bones can splinter and cause serious damage to your petโs digestive system.
๐ซ Nuts (especially macadamia & walnuts) โ Can cause tremors, lethargy, fever and stomach upset.
๐ซ Nutmeg โ Highly poisonous and can trigger tremors and seizures.
๐ซ Chocolate โ Contains theobromine, which is toxic to pets. Even small amounts can be dangerous. Keep chocolates wrapped and off the tree! The darker the chocolate, the riskier it is.
๐ซ Alcohol โ Causes drowsiness, loss of coordination and can dangerously lower body temperature and blood sugar โ leading to seizures or comas.
๐
The safest option? Stick to pet-safe treats so your furry family members can join the celebrations without risk.
๐ A happy, healthy Christmas starts with a little extra care!
