After a week off Elsie, Orion and I are so glad to be back with our friends. It’s always nice to have a break, especially as I can spend more one to one time with my dogs.
However I always miss and feel a bit lost without all the dogs I walk.

It’s going to be another warm week, so it will be early morning walks for us all week again.

Orion was definitely glad to be back with his bff Henry whom he absolutely adores! 😍

As I am off this week I went to go and meet Binky’s new little puppy brother Ludo and oh my gosh is he utterly gorgeous!

As I went to meet him for the first time and see Miss Binky (who I walk), I also went over all his basic training, routine etc with his mum as well.
Already at 12 weeks old he is super intelligent and quick to learn, which is why I always tell everyone to start their puppy’s basic training (including heal work and recall) from the moment they come home at 8-10weeks old.

Puppies are like sponges and are actively learning whether or not you are actively teaching them.
Teach them the right things right from the start and you will have a solid training foundation to build on.

If you don’t do much training or reinforce the wrong things it will lead to behavioural and training issues later on.

Ludo is utterly gorgeous and I can not wait for him to start his training journey and walks with me and his big sister Binky.

Always check your garden for any potentially toxic plants, as well as making sure you check what plants are toxic before buying any new plants.

If needs be properly fence off any plants that could be an issue, so that there is no way your dog can get to them.

It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Over the weekend I had another fantastic session with this lovely working labrador.
We continued working on building his focus and engagement, heel work and recall but this time out in the park.

It is always important to start training and shaping wanted behaviours somewhere quiet with very few potential distractions. Then as their training advances we can then take them to other places where there are likely to be some distractions to work around and so on.

We can not just take a dog who is still learning to somewhere where there is a lot going on and expect them to be focused on us.

Training takes time, it’s no different to a child going to school to learn or us learning a new hobby or job. Dogs need to learn how we want them to behave, be desensitised to their surroundings, as well as learning that the same behaviours are wanted no matter where we take them.

If we straight away take them somewhere that is really busy before they are ready, then we are setting them up to fail and will have failed them. Which is something that we do not want, we want them to do well in their training and to thrive in life.

This gorgeous boy and his mum did absolutely fantastically during their session, he is such a wonderful boy. Every time I see them his training has come along in huge leaps and bounds. ❤️

My wonderful Wednesday Woofers!

What a lovely early morning it has been, I’m so glad I did an extra early morning walk as it was nice and cool and it didn’t start getting warm until after we had finished our walk. After the walk as always they had some water and a bit of chill out time in my van 💤 before I dropped them home.

We all had an absolutely wonderful time together, mostly staying in the shade, having a bit of play time and plenty of calm time.

🌤️ For weather predictions I highly recommend the BBC weather page as it tells you the basic temperature, as well as how it will feel with humidity on top. The link is below, so just press on the time of day to see the humidity information.

It’s not just about the basic temperature when working with dogs, we also need to know how much warmer it will feel due to humidity.
I don’t like to take any needless chances with my K9 best friends. ❤️
