Bruno is an 11yo Bombay cat who has been under the care of our cardiology team since Feb 2025. In this time, he has had several episodes of FATE (Feline Arterial ThromboEmbolism), and through careful medical management under our intensive care teams in hospital followed by his dedicated family managing ongoing physiotherapy and care at home, Bruno has regained limb function and is doing well. He continues to visit our team for regular check ups due to his advanced heart disease, and Cardiology RVN Niki says, 'He is the best boy for his scans and blood tests and we always make sure he has plenty of lick-e-lix treats when he visits us.' Well done Bruno! 💗

This month’s theme puts Compassion & Empathy in the spotlight; values that sit at the very heart of veterinary nursing.

Today, we recognise male Registered Veterinary Nurses, who make up only an approximate 2.7% of the veterinary nursing profession. In a profession traditionally perceived as female‑focused, these individuals are helping to challenge stereotypes and prove that compassion, empathy and excellence in care know no gender.

We are proud to have 4 male RVNs in our team at London Vet Specialists (L-R):
-James Deal, Registered Veterinary Nurse (Multi-Disciplinary)
-Sebastian Mosley, Registered Veterinary Nurse (Surgery Focus)
-Ryan Kavanagh, Head of Nursing Services
-Jack Davies, Acting Hospital Director

To all male RVNs: thank you for the dedication, kindness and professionalism you bring to your teams, your patients and their caregivers. Your contribution strengthens our profession and inspires greater inclusivity for the future.

As part of , we’ve been taking time to celebrate the importance of looking after ourselves while we care for others.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chloé from VetYogi to London Vet Specialists to deliver a series of wellbeing workshops for our team. Chloe guided us through meditation and breathwork techniques, offering practical tools to help manage stress, reset during busy days and build resilience in what can often be a demanding profession. The sessions provided a calm, reflective space for our RVNs and wider team to pause, reconnect and prioritise their own wellbeing; something that’s so easy to overlook in veterinary practice.

Thank you Chloé for sharing your expertise and helping us invest in the health and happiness of our team 💙

The strong working relationship between our RVNs and Clinicians is fundamental to delivering the highest standard of care; combining clinical excellence with kindness, understanding and trust.

Our Oncology Specialist Sofia has highlighted our Lead Oncology RVN, Inge Breathnach and her embodiment of in her work alongside Sofia each day:

“Inge is an incredibly skilled and experienced nurse who consistently demonstrates deep compassion and empathy towards both our patients and their caregivers. She has a natural ability to connect with people during what is often a very difficult and emotional time, offering kindness, reassurance, and genuine understanding. Her calm and gentle approach with patients helps create a safe and comforting environment, even during more complex or stressful procedures. Inge is an invaluable part of our oncology team.”

This , and especially as we recognise International Nurses Day today, we’re celebrating the vital role our veterinary nurses play in patient care; not just in their clinical work, but through their commitment to education and shared learning.

One way we promote this is through our in-house Nurse Clubs, where our RVNs, clinicians and interns come together to present on a wide range of topics tailored to our caseload. These sessions are all about developing knowledge, sharing experience, and ensuring we continue to provide the highest standard of care to our patients.

We’re incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, expertise and collaboration our nursing team brings to these sessions, and the culture of learning that our team foster every day. Thank you to all our veterinary nurses for your dedication to education, teamwork and patient advocacy 🐾
