Winston recently visited us after his owners noticed he was uncomfortable and paying a lot of attention to one of his paws. On examination, we suspected an impacted grass seed, and sure enough, we found and removed it!

Grass seeds may be small, but they can cause big problems. They can become lodged between the toes, in ears, eyes, or even under the skin, leading to pain, swelling, and infection if left untreated.

We’re delighted that Winston is now much more comfortable and back to enjoying his adventures! 💚

🌾 Grass Seed Season is Here! 🌾

As the weather gets warmer, grass seeds become a common problem for our pets — especially dogs who love long walks through fields and tall grass. These tiny seeds may look harmless, but they can easily get trapped in fur, ears, paws and even under the skin, causing pain and infection.

🔍 Common places to check after walks:
- Between the toes
- Inside and around the ears
- Around the eyes
- Nose
- Armpits and groin area
- Under collars and harnesses

⚠️ Signs your pet may have a grass seed:
• Excessive licking or chewing paws
• Head shaking or ear scratching
• Swelling, redness or limping
• Sneezing repeatedly
• Sudden eye squinting or discharge
• Small painful lumps or sores

✅ Top tips to help prevent problems:
• Check your pet thoroughly after every walk
• Keep fur around paws and ears trimmed
• Avoid long dry grass where possible
• Groom regularly during spring and summer

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your vet sooner rather than later — grass seeds can quickly travel under the skin and become much more serious if left untreated 🌾

A lot of our patients receive a complimentary pamper session after their procedure. Once they’re awake and recovering, we often give them a gentle blow dry to help keep them warm and comfortable, along with a face brush so they can head home looking and feeling their best✨

Endoscopy🩺✨

Last week our vet and nursing team took part in endoscopy training, developing their skills in the use, cleaning, and maintenance of our endoscopy equipment.

An endoscope is a specialised camera that allows us to look inside a pet’s body in a minimally invasive way, helping us diagnose and sometimes even treat conditions without the need for surgery🐾📹
