This is Buster a fabulous 9 year old Maine C**n cat who attends due to having idiopathic poly neuropathy, spondylosis and osteoarthritis of the elbow.
Idiopathic poly neuropathy is a rare condition in cats of unknown cause. Patients experience inflammation and damage to peripheral nerves resulting in muscle weakness and sometimes flaccid paralysis and loss of sensation in the hind legs and feet. Buster has benefited from his hydrotherapy and physiotherapy sessions, where the focus has been to exercise in a semi and non weight bearing pool environment , allowing him to maintain muscle mass for longer, improve tone and strength and to do this without additional weight and strain on his arthritic elbow. Buster is supported using a correctly fitted harness allowing the therapist to support his spine in the water when he is in deeper water. The proprioceptive platforms allow us to provide water based physiotherapy and we just love how Buster follows gentle instructions! The videos at home before treatment, and then those taken more recently at the practice, show how Buster is more comfortable in his movement generally. Well done Buster! 💙
