Two weeks into our first scent detection course in London, and Group 1 is off to a brilliant start! 🐾

Every dog and human is doing fantastic work as they learn the foundations of scent detection together. The dogs are discovering the exercise at their own pace, while their humans are learning more about how they think, communicate and approach a new challenge.

Scent detection is a rewarding activity because it can offer dogs:

🐾 Mental stimulation and problem-solving
🐾 A chance to use their natural sense of smell
🐾 Opportunities to build confidence and make choices
🐾 Focus, patience and time to work at their own pace
🐾 A shared activity that can strengthen communication and connection
🐾 An adaptable, low-impact way to learn and have fun together
🐾 And it’s an activity that you can practice indoors and outdoors.

I am focusing on supporting Group 1 as they continue their scent detection journey. But there’s already interest in our next group, so I’m opening a waiting list.

Dogs can enjoy calm pauses and different activities outdoors. Helping them feel relaxed in open spaces can make it easier for them to navigate the world around them. 🐾🌿

Small companion breeds were developed to be just that: companions. They were often bred to be lap dogs (easy to handle, with long coats to keep them warm…) As a result, they can sometimes be very dependent and spend a lot of time being carried or sitting still…

At The Right Pack seminar in London last September, we met Maki, a young maltipoo who felt very insecure around external stimuli, such as people, dogs and new environments. He also lacked confidence in himself and his own abilities.

During the seminar, we suggested that Maki’s family invite him to explore, forage and sniff. In order to do that, they needed to do it themselves first and step into Maki’s world. And what a lovely moment: Maki was encouraged to get his paws dirty and explore!

We often encourage dogs to join in with activities we suggest. But what if we joined in with activities they suggest or ones we know are natural to them? Now Maki explores, digs and finds interesting stuff hiding in the bushes next to his guardians

Tired of every walk feeling a little bit the same?

Scent detection gives you and your dog a new activity to enjoy together. Your dog learns to use their nose to search for a scent, building focus, confidence and problem-solving skills along the way.

It’s fun for dogs and humans, needs very little equipment, and can be adapted for different ages and abilities. You can practise indoors or outside, and even short sessions can give your dog a satisfying mental challenge.

Our classes will run online, with in-person meet-ups every three months. That means you can fit scent work around your schedule and still enjoy quality time with your dog, strengthening your communication and your bond as you have fun and learn together.

Classes are guided by Paola Orozco, Certified Canine Scent Detection Instructor.

All ages and levels welcome. Starting October 2026 in North West London.

Mini dogs live in a world of giants.

So it’s no surprise that they may face more stress and scary situations out on the street than larger dogs.

Sometimes, the simplest thing can make a real difference. During the second in-person session of The Right Pack seminar, which .aureo delivered in London and Paola from with the organised, we got down to the dogs’ level.

This exercise helped:

🔸 The humans empathise with their dogs’ perspective and point of view.
🔸 The dogs feel more comfortable joining a large group of people, especially those who were unsure around strangers.
🔸 Create a calm, trusting and safe setting for the dogs. With gentle activities and a relaxed atmosphere, positive emotions began to spread between dogs and humans.

Thank you, Amor and Bowie, for showing me yesterday where to place my focus, and for making me stop.

This is a reminder for all of us, but also one I need myself: to think about the way we live, where we place our focus, the pace we move at, and how much attention we give to the world around us.

Without them, I can easily get swept up in the rush of work, emails, requests, ver visits, phone calls, training sessions, my computer, traffic… But they always bring me back. Back to what matters.

This walk with Amor and Bowie during golden hour, just as autumn is beginning and the leaves crunched beneath my feet, made me feel that this might be the perfect moment to remind ourselves to pause.

I’ve left the original audio in and added no music. I didn’t want to romanticise or exaggerate the moment; the real sounds, and what was happening around us, were beautiful and powerful enough on their own.

Turn your sound on and enjoy the sounds of the walk as they really were.

To listen. To really look. To feel. To give ourselves time simply to be.

Our dogs are so good at reminding us to slow down. And sometimes, we need to remember not to rush them either.
