Dozy Betty enjoying the effects of her calming meds before her appointment 🐶💤💖

We’re all about making vet visits as stress-free as possible for our patients, even when needles are involved! For anxious or extra wiggly pets, we often use pre-appointment calming meds to help them feel more relaxed for procedures like blood tests or lump sampling.

We also book these appointments during quieter consult times to keep the clinic calm and comfortable 🩺✨

A relaxed pet = a better experience for everyone 💕

A sleek black cat with the brightest eyes you’ve ever seen!

If you’ve ever been chosen by a black cat, you’ll know… they don’t just walk into your life, they take it over (politely, of course).

As Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to our brilliant veterinary nurses for everything they do 💜

From monitoring anaesthetics and running nurse clinics to comforting nervous pets, supporting worried owners, and keeping the practice running smoothly behind the scenes. Their skill, compassion and dedication make an enormous difference every single day.

Veterinary nurses are often the reassuring hand, the calm voice, and the extra pair of eyes your pet needs during their visit, and we simply couldn’t do it without them🐾

☀️ Hot weather can be dangerous for our pets 🐾

Heat stroke can happen very quickly, especially in flat-faced breeds, older pets, overweight pets, and those exercising in warm temperatures.

Here are some simple ways to keep your pet safe this summer:
💧 Always provide fresh water
🌳 Walk dogs early morning or later in the evening
🚗 Never leave pets in parked cars
🔥 Avoid hot pavements that can burn paws
❄️ Make sure pets have a cool, shaded place to rest

Signs of heat stroke can include:
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Bright red gums

If you’re worried your pet may be overheating, contact your vet immediately, heat stroke is an emergency.

Stay safe and keep those tails wagging this summer

Bella enjoying some well-earned post-spay cuddles after being the bravest girl 💕🐾

After a spay, most cats are sleepy, snuggly and ready for a quiet day of TLC, just like Bella. Spaying is a routine procedure that prevents unwanted pregnancies, removes the risk of uterine infections and significantly reduces the risk of mammary cancer later in life when done early.

It also means no more seasons, no calling, and no trying to escape in search of a boyfriend 🙈

We always make sure our feline patients go home comfortable, pain-free and with plenty of aftercare advice for their humans.

Harold was rushed down to the practice after his owners noticed he was walking strangely and had blood on his paws.

Following a thorough examination, the vet suspected Harold may have been involved in a road traffic collision. X-rays confirmed that he had sustained a fractured pelvis.

Harold was conscious for his initial X-rays (which is why he isn’t perfectly straight, unlike in his post-operative images where he was under anaesthetic).

We were able to surgically repair his fracture, and we’re happy to report that Harold has gone on to make a full recovery. He has been such a brave boy throughout it all. 💙🐾

Handsome Rambo popped in for his very first appointment with us, where he had a full dental check-up alongside a few important health checks to make sure he’s feeling his very best 💜🐶

Did you know your pet’s first visit is about much more than just vaccines? At The Finchley Vet, we use these early appointments to build a full picture of your pet’s health, from checking teeth and gums, to listening to the heart, assessing weight, discussing parasite prevention, and answering any questions owners may have. Regular preventative checks like these are a key part of keeping pets happy and healthy for years to come.

Dental health is especially important, as plaque and tartar can start building up long before obvious signs appear. Catching any issues early helps prevent discomfort, bad breath, tooth loss, and even wider health problems later on🦷
