Happy Feline Friday from Merlin 🖤

Give a cat a brand-new bed and they'll choose the box it came in. Merlin has found his spot and has no plans to move.

Veterinary nursing is a vocation built on care. It's also, if we're honest, one of the most emotionally demanding roles in healthcare.

This Vet Nurse Awareness Month, the theme of Compassion and Empathy extends inward as well as outward. The same nurses who hold space for anxious owners and frightened cats carry their own weight too, and that matters.

To our RVNs and student nurses: the compassion you give your patients and their people every day is extraordinary.

We see it, and we want you to know that your wellbeing is as important to us as the care you provide.

You deserve the same kindness you give.

Whichever it is, Dr Sam Taylor wants to hear from you. Sam is a Specialist in Feline Internal Medicine, and her survey, The Fur Report 2026, looks at how grooming and fur affect cats' health.

It takes 10 to 15 minutes and is completely anonymous. If you have more than one cat, please fill it in once for each.

Meet Eltsu, October's Finest Feline Face, the goofiest scaredy-cat you'll ever meet!

His affection isn't easily won, but once you've earned it, you have a heart full of love on your hands. Fresh shrimp and boiled chicken are the way in, and Eltsu's owner knows exactly how to bribe their way to a cuddle.

He's also quite the talker, often heard murmuring away to his humans around the house in his own little language.

It's Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day, and we're using it properly: to say thank you to our front desk team ❤️

They're the first voice you hear when you call, and often the calmest one in the room when you're worried. Fitting in an urgent appointment. Talking a concerned owner through what to expect.

Remembering which cat hates the carrier, and which owner needs a call rather than a text.

Reception don't always get the recognition afforded to those performing the clinical procedures, but a lot of the real care happens right there at the front desk.

If the answer is "never", you are not alone.

Cats are remarkably good at hiding discomfort, and dental problems are one of the things they hide best, which means the signs are often easy to miss until things have progressed.

That's why we're inviting the cats of Bermondsey to a complimentary dental check with one of our vets.

During the 15-minute check, our vets will:

Examine your cat's teeth and gums
Talk you through what to look out for at home
Let you know if your cat may benefit from dental treatment

It's a calm, gentle appointment in our feline-only clinic, and a chance to catch small problems before they become big ones.
