📢Important Announcement from Emergency Home Vet📢

After two years of an exciting and incredibly rewarding adventure, we are deeply saddened to announce that Emergency Home Vet will no longer be operating as of Monday 1st December at 6:00am.

During this time, we’ve had the privilege of helping over 3,200 pets in their homes in both London and Manchester, and supporting more than 16,000 families over the phone. It has been an honour to be trusted during some of your most stressful and emotional moments.

We are immensely proud of what our small team has achieved and so grateful to every client who welcomed us into their homes, recommended us to others, and supported our mission to bring emergency veterinary care to pets where they feel safest.

💚 Vet Nurse Awareness Day 💚

Friday was Vet Nurse Awareness Day, and we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) who make up our triage team here at Emergency Home Vet.

Our triage nurses are absolutely essential to what we do. They are the calm, knowledgeable voices on the other end of the phone - assessing emergencies, supporting worried owners, and helping us prioritise urgent cases so pets get the help they need as quickly as possible.

Their clinical knowledge, compassion and composure make a huge difference to the pets and people we help every single night. 💚

A huge thank you to our triage RVNs - you’re the unsung heroes of emergency veterinary care! Heres some memories shared from the many years our RVNS have been caring for your lovely pets throughout their careers!

⚠️ Blue-Green Algae Warning! ⚠️

☀️ With the hot weather, we’re seeing an increase in blue-green algae growth in ponds, lakes, and rivers.

🚫 This algae is highly toxic to dogs – even small amounts can make them critically ill or sadly prove fatal.
🚫 It often looks like green or blue scum on the surface of the water.
🚫 If your dog swims in or drinks contaminated water, symptoms can appear within minutes: Vomiting or diarrhoea, weakness or collapse, seizures, Breathing difficulties.

If you suspect your dog has been exposed, seek emergency veterinary help immediately. For when your usual clinic is closed, call us: London 0208 073 0500 & Manchester 0161 394 0942.

Please keep your pets safe by avoiding any water with algae present this bank holiday🐾

🐾 Meet Plop 🐾

Her name makes us smile every time we say it, but this little one has quite a story.

Plop was the only survivor of a stray litter found in the bushes of her family's garden 🥺. Recently, she started having some difficulties with her urination. After a visit from our wonderful vet Andrei, and some anti-inflammatories, Plop is now feeling much better! 💛

These days, she lives happily with her sister-from-another-mister Squash, who taught her how to be a kitten again.

We love hearing the names and stories behind the pets we meet - some are sweet, some are funny, and some are completely unique.

🐦 Found a baby bird? Not sure what to do?

Spring and summer often bring encounters with young wild birds — but the best thing you can do isn’t always what you might think. This brilliant flowchart from the RSPCA helps you figure out whether a bird needs help… or should just be left alone.

✨ Key points:
🔹 Fledglings (with feathers) are meant to be out of the nest – parents are usually close by!
🔹 Nestlings (no feathers) do need help – they can't survive on their own.
🔹 Never give food or water, and only handle birds if absolutely necessary.

🧤 Use gloves if you must move them, and always keep pets well away.

Let’s help wildlife the right way 💚

🔴 EXTREME HEAT STROKE WARNING FOR DOGS – TEMPERATURES OVER 30°Cs THIS WEEKEND!! 🔴

With the extreme heat hitting the UK this weekend, we’re urging all pet parents to take extra care – dogs can suffer heat stroke in minutes, and it can be fatal without fast intervention. ⚠️Remember: A skipped walk is far better than a walk with a fatal outcome⚠️

🚨 What to watch for:
Heavy panting or rapid breathing

Lethargy, confusion, or collapse

Bright red or pale gums

Vomiting or diarrhoea

Seizures or unresponsiveness

🐾 How to help your dog stay safe:
✅ Walk early morning or late evening

✅ Always provide shade and fresh water

✅ NEVER leave your dog in a car — not even for a minute

✅ Avoid hot pavements — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws

⚠️ If you suspect heat stroke, act immediately:
Move your dog to a cool area

Offer cool (not cold) water

Continuously pour cool water over their body, especially armpits and groin (do not leave wet towels on them - this can have the opposite desired effect). Use a fan too if you have one.

Call a vet immediately!!
