Introducing a new cat to a household that already has pets can be exciting, but taking things slowly is the key to helping everyone settle in happily.

Cats are naturally territorial, and rushing introductions can lead to stress, fear and conflict. With a little patience and the right approach, many cats can learn to live together comfortably.

🐾 How to prepare your home before your new cat arrives
🏑 Why gradual introductions are so important
πŸ‘ƒ How scent swapping can help pets become familiar with each other
😺 Tips for introducing a new cat to existing cats and dogs
❀️ How to recognise signs of stress and help everyone adjust at their own pace

Every pet is different, and some introductions take longer than others. Giving your new arrival time to settle can make all the difference to building positive, long-lasting relationships.

πŸ±πŸ’š Lovely Mia recently visited us for the second stage of her dental treatment, during which she had three teeth removed.

At Roundwood Vets, we sometimes stage dental procedures when it's in a patient's best interests. By spreading treatment over two shorter anaesthetics rather than one longer procedure, we can help keep our patients as comfortable as possible while also reducing the risk of anaesthetic and post-operative complications.

One of the challenges with cats is that they are incredibly good at hiding pain, so dental disease can often go unnoticed until it's quite advanced. That's why regular dental checks are so important. They allow us to spot problems early and help keep our feline friends comfortable, eating well and enjoying life.

Mia was an absolute superstar throughout her treatment, and we're so pleased she's now on the road to a healthier, pain-free mouth.❀️🐾

πŸΆπŸ’™ Double the dogs, double the smiles! Cocoa and Sama recently visited us for skin check-ups after both feeling a little itchy.

The good news is that they were absolute dream patients, making their visit a pleasure from start to finish. Itchy skin can have lots of different causes, so check-ups are an important way to get to the root of the problem and help keep our furry friends comfortable.

Thank you for being such wonderful patients, Cocoa and Simba. We hope you're both feeling much more comfortable and back to enjoying all your favourite adventures! 🐾❀️

πŸΆπŸ’š Handsome Jackson recently came to see us for a dental assessment under anaesthetic, and he was an absolute superstar throughout his visit.

Although Jackson is a big boy, nobody seems to have told him! πŸ˜‚ He spent every opportunity trying to snuggle up for cuddles with Nurse Lisa, proving that he's really just a gentle giant at heart. ❀️

Dental assessments under anaesthetic allow us to examine every tooth thoroughly and identify any treatment needed to keep our patients comfortable and their mouths healthy.

It was a pleasure looking after you, Jackson. We hope you're feeling great, and we're already looking forward to your next cuddle with Nurse Lisa! 🐾

πŸ’™πŸΎ Poor Blue! This handsome Whippet cross Greyhound recently came to see us after managing to dislocate a toe... ouch! 😒

Thanks to our digital X-ray system, we were able to quickly diagnose the problem and confirm exactly what was going on, allowing us to reposition the toe promptly and get Blue the treatment and pain relief he needed as soon as possible.

Blue is now on the road to recovery and has been visiting our wonderful nursing team for regular bandage changes to help keep everything protected while it heals.

Despite his injury, Blue has been such a brave and gentle patient, and we're all rooting for him as he continues to recover. We hope you'll be back running around the park in no time, Blue! πŸ’™πŸΆ

🐱🧑 We recently had the joy of meeting tiny Apricot, who came to Roundwood Vets for an 8-week health check. What an adorable little patient!

With those curious eyes and tiny paws, Apricot certainly melted a few hearts at the practice. πŸ’› Health checks during those first few weeks are an important way to make sure kittens are growing well, developing as they should, and getting off to the best possible start in life.

It was such a pleasure to meet you, Apricot. We can't wait to watch you grow over the coming months! 🐾❀️

🐱 Have you noticed your cat drinking more water than usual?

It might be nothing more than a warm day or a change in diet, but increased thirst can also be one of the earliest signs of an underlying health condition such as kidney disease, diabetes or hyperthyroidism.

Because cats are so good at hiding when they're unwell, even small changes in their daily routine can be worth paying attention to.

In our latest blog, we explain:

πŸ’§ How much water is normal for a cat to drink
🐾 Common reasons cats become thirstier
🩺 When increased drinking could be a sign of illness
❀️ What to expect if your cat needs a veterinary check-up
🏑 Simple things you can monitor at home

Our aim is to help you recognise the signs early, understand what they could mean and know when it's time to seek veterinary advice.

πŸ±πŸ’› Say hello to lovely Sandy, who recently visited us for her spay procedure!

Sandy was an absolute star throughout her stay, and it was a pleasure to look after her. Spaying is an important part of preventative healthcare and can help reduce the risk of certain health conditions later in life, while also preventing unwanted litters.

Thank you for being such a wonderful patient, Sandy! ❀️
