Reminding the little boy in my head that things haven’t turned out so badly after all. ❤️

My brain is still a rather jumbled place, and the self-doubt creeps in more often than people might imagine.

But somehow, through plenty of wrong turns, my camera and some extraordinary little souls, I’ve found something that brings it all together. The dogs.

When I’m photographing them, all those scattered thoughts finally have somewhere to go. They give my creativity a focus, and without them, my life would look immeasurably different.

Sometimes I wish I could show that little boy the places he’ll visit, the people he’ll meet, and the thousands of precious dogs who will change his life.

I really hope he’d be proud. ❤️

Yesterday was one of those days that made me realise just how much the conversation around our dogs has changed.

There was so much thought being given to what they eat, how they feel, how they move through the world, and all the small choices that can shape their wellbeing.

That subject has become incredibly personal to me over the years. Jack Jack has taught me to ask more questions, to look more closely, and to appreciate just how much the smallest details can matter.

So spending the day surrounded by people and brands putting genuine care, research and thought into those same things felt very special.

There were new faces, old friends and so many lovely conversations throughout the day, and I was also incredibly grateful to be invited to share a little of my own journey and work.

I came home with plenty to think about, a very full heart… and, most importantly according to Jack Jack, some new balls. 🤍

I’m rather excited to share that my portrait ‘On Duty’ has been shortlisted by the British Photography Awards.

Last year’s awards were completely surreal, so to see the boys shortlisted this year is something I’m immensely grateful for.

I love creating the finished portraits, of course, but getting there is very rarely just about the photograph. It’s about enjoying the moment. 🤍

There are treats, cuddles, little negotiations and plans that are very quickly rewritten. And somewhere amongst all of that, the loveliest part is the trust. That moment when a little soul who has no idea what on earth we’re doing decides to go along with me anyway.

Then there’s the floof glitter.

I wear it as a badge of honour on my clothes, in the camera bag, somehow inside things that were never opened. A little reminder of Christmas that tends to accompany me long after the photoshoot has finished.

I’m incredibly thankful for everything that happens just outside the frame too. The boops, the laughs, the unexpected detours, and those moments when a dog decides we’re doing things entirely their way instead.

Somehow, those are usually the bits that make the whole thing feel like Christmas.
