My dogs wouldn't sit there and let me do that？？？

🐕‍🦺 Behavior & Training Tips:
Desensitize Gradually:

Touch and hold their paws daily without trimming.

Reward with treats for letting you handle their feet.

Short Sessions:

Just do 1–2 nails per session if needed.

Keep it calm and positive.

Use High-Value Treats:

Something special like cheese, chicken, or peanut butter can be a game-changer.

Distraction:

Use a lick mat with peanut butter stuck to a wall or floor.

Or have a helper gently distract them with treats.

Try After Exercise or a Bath:

Dogs are calmer when tired.

After a bath, nails are softer and easier to trim.

How can you tell how much your cutting off the dogs nail?..
🐾 For Light/White Nails:
Look for the pink area inside the nail—this is the quick.
Only trim the clear/white tip that extends beyond the pink.
Leave a small buffer (1–2 mm) before the quick to avoid bleeding.
🐾 For Dark/Black Nails:
These are trickier because the quick isn’t visible.
Tips:
Trim small slivers at a time.
After each cut, look at the cut surface:
If it’s chalky or white, you're safe.
As you get closer to the quick, you’ll see a gray or darker oval start to appear in the center.
Stop cutting when you see this darker center—it’s the edge of the quick.
🧰 Tools & Tips:
Use sharp pet nail clippers or a grinder.
Keep styptic powder or cornstarch nearby to stop bleeding if you cut too far.
Trim nails regularly—monthly or biweekly—to keep the quick from growing longer.
