Easily being one of my favourite projects as of recently. Pairing the beautiful Hogna carolinensis. Commonly known as the “Carolina Wolf Spider”, this large species of Lycosidae originate from grassland areas of North America.

With two females captive paired (one already laid a sack) and two wc females producing sacks. I’m eagerly awaiting them to hatch to attempt to establish a healthy captive bred population here in the U.K.! For those that have yet to keep lycosids in general, I highly recommend them for their beautiful colourations and hunting techniques! Everything crossed for success with this species😊

Apologies for the radio silence! Been really busy at work the past few weeks so haven’t been able to sit down and sort out some posts! But check out these absolutely stunning Cubaris sp “Rubber Ducky”. A beautiful species of terrestrial isopod originating from limestone caves in Thailand.

Recently discovered in 2017, this species has become the face of the isopod hobby due to their iconic face looking just like you guessed it, a rubber ducky. I’ve been lucky enough to get a culture of these from .exotics and already have mancae wandering around in the tub they’re in!

Well… this happened last night! Captive breeding of Thelcticopis orichalcea (sp “Gold Black”) and a successful pairing at that! As far as the whole process it went fairly smooth, most of which happened in the dark as to not disturb them, male spent a few minutes huddled next to the females “nest” in the leaf litter. After leaving for about an hour, I noticed the male had enticed the female out and was on top of her (at first I was weirded out as it looked like he was eating her)

Unfortunately wasn’t able to record the drumming process as he was on top of her but what I can say it was very subtle full body shakes with the occasional tapping of his pedipalps. The full length of the pairing would roughly be about 40 minutes but unsure as this was late last night and I fell asleep (oops🤣)

Overall, I’m over the moon with this pairing due to the fact it may very well be the first documented case here in the U.K.! Fingers crossed it was a success and I get some beautiful babies hatch out 🤞🏽

Definitely a highlight for me on Sunday was being able to have a chat with the one and only Richard from the the_tarantula_collective!! Although nearer to the end of the day as I was super busy trading at my stand, Richard having the time to chat to me was honestly so nice. Comparing the U.K. vs US price of G pulchra and other topics (something planned😉) and getting a picture and autographed photos just made the day even more special!

(Check the end picture of me and Richard watching a balfouri communal video🤣)

What an absolute fantastic day yesterday was! The very first Captial Invert Show hosted by Invert Shows UK!!

As always, the shows put on by them is amazing and this one definitely didn’t disappoint! From a trading point of view I feel I did pretty good, getting to sell about half the table!

Of course you can’t forget about the social aspect of these shows, getting to meet up with friends old and new as well as peeps who subscribe and watch my content (surreal at times honestly). Thank you all who came over, had a chat, took some photos and overall just made the day as good as it was! The next show I’ll be trading at is the British Tarantula Society show, May 21st! See you all there😊

So last night I couldn’t sleep so what better to do than try to get some pairings done! That’s exactly what I did with one of my adult female Heteropoda lunula! If you’ve seen my previous post I had my male mature out recently and although I didn’t whiteness a s***m web being produced (maybe he ate it after ok not sure) he was really searching for a female at night so decided to give it a go!

With some encouragement I got him into the females enclosure where she was receptive almost straight away, and the pair went straight to it only 5 minutes after the male entering! You can see in the video the male inserting the hook on his emboli into the females epigyne, to insert his s***m!

Fingers crossed she produces a good sack soon!
