AN IMPORTANT POETICAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE WORD ZOO 💜📣

Our 10th anniversary show, originally scheduled for Saturday 17th October, has been postponed.

This isn’t a cancellation. We’re currently working on new arrangements and will announce the rescheduled date as soon as everything has been confirmed.

Please keep an eye on the email address used when making your booking for further information.

Our regular monthly event, Opulent October, is still going ahead on Thursday 1st October as planned with our Featured Poet, Shaun Rivers & Featured Musician TBC

As well as our house band Vibe Machine and the open mic 🎤

So this postponement only affects the 10th anniversary show.

We’re sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience this change may cause, and we really appreciate your patience and understanding.

Ten years of The Word Zoo deserves a proper celebration and we’re still going to give it one 👑💜

A new date will be announced as soon as possible. Keep your eyes on the Zoo… 👀

One week until October gets opulent 👀✨

Next Thursday, we’re returning to The Others for another evening of poetry, live music, open-mic performances and all the unexpected moments that make The Word Zoo what it is.

🍂 OPULENT OCTOBER 🍂

🎤 FEATURED POET — Shaun Rivers

Shaun Rivers is a British/Mauritian performance poet, actor, visual artist and frontman of psych-infused electro-punk trio Charlie & The Oscillator, born in Stockport and based in London.

His poetry has taken him from intimate spoken-word nights to festival stages and everything in between. He was a co-host of Chocolate Poetry Club, and his debut poetry collection, Twisted & Chewed, was published in 2018, followed by Twisted & Chewed II in 2023. He also featured as a vocalist and spoken word performer on One Slow Breath by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, from their 2017 album Don’t Get Lost. He created and compères his own variety night, River’s Rodeo.

An audience with Shaun naturally becomes an extension of the stage itself. With spoken word running through his veins and all the qualities of a rockstar, he is no stranger to mischief — no angel with a narrative. Best served with a pint of slow-poured Guinness in one hand and halo-crushing chaos in the other.

Ten years. Countless words. One very special celebration 👑💜

✨ THE WORD ZOO IS TURNING 10 ✨

At the heart of that ten-year story is our founder and host, Teige Maddison 🎙️✨

He created The Word Zoo back when he was studying at Falmouth University, then spent its first six years building, hosting and keeping it running largely on his own, laying the foundations for the community and team it has grown into today — including Kory Kor 🎙aka K10UDz 🎹 & Spike Zephaniah 😎

This anniversary is also a celebration of the vision, love and persistence TygerSoul has poured into the Zoo from the very beginning 💜

On Saturday 17th October, we’re taking over The Others for a special anniversary event celebrating ten years of poetry, music, open mics, unexpected moments — and all the wonderful people who have made The Word Zoo what it is.

For ten years, performers have stepped up to the mic, audiences have filled the room with their energy, and poetry, music and vibes have brought us together.

Now it’s time to celebrate the journey so far… and begin the next chapter 🥳

Whether you’ve been part of The Word Zoo for years, joined us only recently, or have been waiting for the right moment to come along, we’d love you to celebrate with us 🤩

📅 Saturday 17th October
📍 The Others
Top Floor, 6 Manor Rd, London N16 5SA

🎟 Limited early-bird tickets: £8
🎫 General admission: £10

Early-bird tickets are available now, so grab yours before they’re gone.

Our anniversary line-up, event timings and name-in-the-hat open-mic details will all be announced soon. Keep your eyes on the Zoo… 👀

Ten years of whimsical words…
Ten years of magical music…
Ten years of wonderful connections 💜

One week until the words return. Can you feel it? 👀💜

This time next Thursday, we’ll be back inside The Others for…

✨ SOULFUL SEPTEMBER ✨

A new season of The Word Zoo begins, as we return from our summer break with two featured acts bringing poetry, music, comedy and spontaneity to the room.

🎤 FEATURED POET — JAH-MIR EARLY
Jah-Mir Early

Jah-Mir Early is an American poet, storyteller and improv spokenword artist whose performances are created in the moment, following the unexpected connections of his mind wherever they lead.

He’s a regular performer, previous feature act and longtime supporter of The Word Zoo, so we can’t wait to hear what he adds to Soulful September vibes.

We were also lucky enough to sit down with Jah-Mir on episode 8 of his spoken.be podcast — make sure to check it out if you haven’t already 👀🎧

🎶 FEATURED MUSICIAN — ROOPS
Roops

Roops brings together words, music and comedy, transforming everyday subjects into unexpectedly hard-hitting songs and rap bangers over his own self-produced beats or played on his mandolin, on his own or with a band.

He’s also another regular performer, previous feature act, and Word Zoo Not-So-Christmassy Christmas cast member 👀😂🎸 so we can’t wait to hear what he brings to the stage in Soulful September.
