PAWSE FOR A MOMENT…

🐾Tuesday Tips🐾

When our dogs are in daycare here at ACC the team like to mix up their day with fun activities that keep them engaged, learning and enjoying themselves!🐶

Recently we’ve been practising two simple skills: sit and paw.🐾

🐾Top tips for teaching “sit”: Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose and slowly move it upwards and slightly back. As their head follows the treat, their bottom should naturally lower. The moment they sit, reward them!

🐾 For “paw”: Once your dog is sitting, hold a treat in a closed hand and let them investigate. When they lift their paw towards your hand, reward them and introduce the cue “paw”. With practice, they’ll start to understand what you’re asking! 🐶

🐾 TUESDAY TIPS: GROUP WALKS Part 2 🐾

We know that knowing your dogs is key to a successful group walk, but there’s more to it than just who gets along with who!

📍 PICK YOUR LOCATION WISELY
The location can make a HUGE difference…

A quiet, open space with good visibility can give the team much more control and allows them to spot potential situations before they become a problem.

🦮 THEN WE ASSESS: CAN THEY DRAG?
Before heading out, the team considers which dogs could can drag or stay on lead. “Dragging” is keeping the leads on the dogs as they run free and play with their friends.

Why do we do this?
Because if something unexpected happens, the lead means the team can maintain control and safely intervene if needed.
It’s not about restricting the dogs. It’s about knowing them, understanding the environment and making sensible decisions to keep the whole pack safe. 🐶🐶🐶
