🐾 Avoid walking your dog during the hottest part of the day. Early morning or later in the evening is much safer.
🐾 Pavements can become hot enough to burn your dog’s paws. If it’s too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for their paws.
🐾 Always make sure your dog has access to plenty of fresh, cool water and shade.
🐾 Never leave a dog in a parked car – even with the windows open.
🐾 Flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, English Bulldogs and Boston Terriers are especially vulnerable to overheating, so take extra care with them in warm weather.
If your dog shows signs of excessive panting, laboured breathing, weakness, collapse, vomiting, confusion or seems distressed, move them somewhere cool immediately, begin cooling them with cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your vet as soon as possible.
As a groomer, your dogs’ health and wellbeing will always come first. ❤️ If this post helps even one owner recognise the signs of heatstroke, it’s worth sharing.
Please feel free to share this post with friends and family—it could help keep another dog safe this summer. ☀️🐾
