๐ŸŒฎ Meet Dorito, Pringle, Skips and Wotsit! ๐Ÿงก

๐ŸฅThese four tiny kittens were left in a box outside our Hammersmith hospital at 4am, along with a note explaining they had been found during a delivery round and nowhere was open.

โค๏ธโ€๐ŸฉนThankfully, our Hammersmith team were there to welcome them! ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸชฑApart from their little pot bellies, likely caused by worms, and having spent hours shut in a box, the kittens were thankfully doing OK.

๐ŸšThey were transferred to our Victoria hospital, where a cosy kennel was already waiting for them, complete with toys and enrichment. โค๏ธ

โฑ๏ธIt took a little time for Dorito, Pringle, Skips and Wotsit to forget about their frightening start, but soon enough, curiosity took over and they were happily playing together! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฑ

๐ŸกAt around six weeks old, they have now headed off to one of our rehoming centres, where theyโ€™ll be cared for until theyโ€™re old enough to find their forever homes.

๐Ÿ“ฆFrom a cardboard box at 4am to a safe, warm bed with toys to play with, these little ones are now on the road to a much brighter future. ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸฅบMeet Sweetpea and Blossom๐Ÿฅบ

๐ŸฅThought to be just eight weeks old, these sisters arrived at Blue Cross hungry, injured and covered in fleas after being sold by an unscrupulous breeder.

๐ŸšจTheir wounds were infected, with bone exposed and necrosis was developing in Blossomโ€™s case. Both kittens needed urgent veterinary treatment, including wound cleaning, bandaging and antibiotics.

๐ŸพThankfully, with dedicated care from our Merton animal hospital and then transferring to Victoria hospital, the sisters began to recover. Blossom needed several further treatments under sedation, but both kittens made wonderful progress.

๐ŸšAfter 10 days in our care, Sweetpea and Blossom moved to one of our rehoming centre to begin their search for a loving new home.

๐Ÿ’”Their heartbreaking start is a reminder of why better legislation around pet breeding is so important. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

๐Ÿ’ซMeet Drew๐Ÿ’ซ

๐ŸฑDrew was found on Tooting Common by a passerby who heard a tiny meow, followed it and found little Drew extremely unwell and barely able to move.

๐ŸฅHe was rushed to our Merton hospital before coming to Victoria. ๐ŸŒก๏ธHis temperature was so dangerously low it wasnโ€™t even registering on the thermometer, and he was severely anaemic because of a heavy flea infestation.

๐ŸšจFlea anaemia happens when fleas feed on an animalโ€™s blood. In tiny kittens, a heavy infestation can cause enough blood loss to leave them dangerously anaemic and unable to carry enough oxygen around their body. Sadly, weโ€™re seeing more and more kittens and adult cats arriving with serious flea problems.

๐ŸฅบDespite killing all the fleas, Drew remained critically anaemic and at risk of dying and needed a blood transfusion.

๐ŸฉธLuckily, we had Pearl with us. She had also arrived with a severe flea infestation and had scratched herself red raw from the itching. Pearl and Drew had the same blood type ๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธso she was able to donate blood to him and that transfusion saved his life๐Ÿพ

๐ŸคฉAnd look at him now, Drew is doing amazingly well.

๐ŸฅWe share the happy stories, but sadly all too often kittens arrive too late and, despite our teams doing everything possible, their little bodies have been pushed too far and they donโ€™t make it. ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ“šDrewโ€™s story is a reminder that fleas are not just an irritation. For a vulnerable kitten, they can be fatal.

โ€ผ๏ธPlease keep your cats protected with a veterinary recommended flea treatment.

๐ŸฅฐDrew survived because someone heard his tiny meow and Pearl gave him the blood he needed to live. ๐Ÿพ

When Phoebe arrived at Blue Cross, it was hard to see the puppy underneath. ๐Ÿ’”

Found on a caravan site with her sister, Piper, and brought in by a dog warden, Phoebeโ€™s coat was so badly matted that around 85% of her body was covered. She was uncomfortable, frightened and in desperate need of care.

Our team got to work removing the mats carefully, and quickly discovered a six-month-old puppy.

With patience, care and time, Phoebe began to show the happy young dog she really was. And now, sheโ€™s found a loving new home of her own.

When Luna arrived in our care, the change in her circumstances left her anxious and struggling to cope. ๐Ÿ’”

The lively whippet had come from a busy home where her family felt they couldn't give her the time she needed. Sadly, Luna found the transition to kennel life overwhelming. Being left alone in her kennel was just too much for her to handle.

Determined to help Luna feel safe, our team went above and beyond to make her time in the kennels as positive as possible.

Each day, Luna was encouraged to choose a new toy to take back to her kennel, helping her to build positive associations with her space. The team kept a radio on overnight to comfort her and provided a โ€˜destruction boxโ€™ filled with treats, giving her an outlet for her anxiety. With enrichment, training, and patience, Lunaโ€™s kennel became a place she loved.

Before long, Luna was back to her energetic and silly self, earning her the nickname โ€˜Kangarooโ€™ as she zoomed and bounced around the paddock at full speed.

A family soon fell for Lunaโ€™s silly and fun-loving personality, and sheโ€™s now thriving in a loving home of her own. ๐Ÿ’™

Could you help us give more pets like Luna a second chance?

Every day we see pets come through our doors in need of a second chance, and you can help. By sponsoring a pet, your money goes towards the care and help that these animals need to go on and live the life they deserve. Click the link to find out more. ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4hdEDZN

We couldn't believe what poor Sahara and Nevada had been living in together for six months. ๐Ÿ’”

Living in a clear box, with barely any space to run or play, and only shallow bedding, these poor girls were long overdue an upgrade.

Since then, they have moved into a gerbil paradise with lots of enrichment, forage, bedding deep enough to make tunnels, and lots of safe places to hide.

After growing in confidence and trust, they were adopted together.

Discover how to care for your gerbil. ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4c5BPeq

Five tiny kittens arrived at our Victoria animal hospital, terrified, shaking and huddled together in a box. ๐Ÿ’”

At just five weeks old, Porky, Beatrix, Buddy, Slinky and Dippy were already showing signs of how difficult their short lives had been.

The person who brought them said they had been given the kittens by a friend to sell, leaving us deeply concerned about what they had already experienced.

Porky was in the worst condition, with urine staining and faeces stuck between her paws, while all five would hiss and swipe at anyone who came near.

But with patience, love and time in foster care, their fear began to melt away. Within days, they were confident, playful little kittens.

Now, all five are thriving in loving homes, showing just how much a safe place, expert care and a second chance can change a life. ๐Ÿ’™
