🎓✨ GRADUATION DAY!!! ✨🎓

Gibson & Jones Vets are absolutely delighted to announce the graduation of Cookie, our very first feline superstar to complete our weight clinic! 🐱💗

Cookie definitely has her own agenda when it comes to mealtimes, so there were a few non-negotiable items that simply had to stay on the menu! 😹🍗

Our amazing weight clinic nurse, Sally, worked her magic and tailored Cookie’s diet to make sure she stayed happy, healthy and, most importantly, still enjoyed her favourite treat while working towards her goals. 🥰

And the results speak for themselves...
⚖️ Total weight loss: 1.5kg! 🎉👏

On behalf of all our future weight clinic patients, thank you, Cookie! You’ve proved that getting to a healthier weight doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to all the things you love. 😻❤️

If you think your pet could benefit from one of our weight clinics, please get in touch with our friendly team and we’ll be happy to get you booked in! 🐶🐱💚

🎓✨ GRADUATION DAY!!! ✨🎓

This was a very special and emotional day for our amazing weight clinic nurse, Sally, and her superstar patient, Meg! 🐾💗

Just look at what this gorgeous girl has achieved! 😍👏
⚖️ Total weight loss: 9kg!
📏 Waist measurement: -17cm!
📏 Chest measurement: -12cm!
📏 Neck measurement: -10cm!

What makes this achievement even more special is how far Meg has come.❤️
From not wanting to walk through the door or even get on the scales at the practice, to now dragging her dad through the door for her monthly weigh-ins! 😂🐶

Meg has become a very special girl to Sally, and looking at these two together, we think the feeling is definitely mutual! 🥰

🌟 Well done, Meg! You are an absolute superstar! 🌟

If you think your pet could benefit from one of our weight clinics, please get in touch with our team. We'd be more than happy to arrange an appointment and help your pet on their own journey to a healthier, happier life. 🐶🐱💚
Well done, Meg! 🎓🐾❤️

☀️ Hot Weather Information ☀️

With the current heatwave, we want to share some useful information and advice on looking after your pets during hot weather.

Hot weather can be dangerous for pets, so it’s important to keep them cool, comfortable, and well hydrated.

ANIMALS AT HIGH RISK:

🏃‍♂️ Any animal at exercise
🐶 Short nosed/ flat faced breeds
⚖️ Overweight animals
😿 Animals with underlying conditions
👵 Elderly animals
☀️ Animals without shade who cannot get out of the sun (especially dangerous are hutches, cages, runs etc.)

TIPS TO KEEP ANIMALS SAFE:

✔️ Make sure there is always access to fresh water
✔️ Keep in shade and avoid direct sunlight (including small pets, rabbit hutches, bird cages etc), close blinds/curtains if necessary
✔️ Keep rooms well ventilated
❌ DO NOT EXERCISE dogs in the sun. Avoid the hottest parts of the day, ideally wait until the evening or early in the morning. A dog will not die from missing a walk but one walk in hot weather could be fatal
🚗 If you need to travel, use aircon if you have it or ensure good ventilation with open windows
❌Never leave any animals in a vehicle. If you see an animal in distress in a vehicle call 999
🖐️Test the tarmac with your hand, if it's too hot for you it's too hot for your pet’s paws
🦊 Please also spare a thought for wild animals and place bowls of water outside

SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE:
Initial signs:
⚠️ Heavy panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Restlessness/Agitation
⚠️ Bright red or very pale gums
⚠️ Increased heart rate
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhoea

Progressing to:
⚠️ Lack of co-ordination
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Vacant or distant behaviour
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
⚠️ Seizures

WHAT TO DO:
If your dog shows signs of heatstroke, act immediately: stop exercise, move them to the shade, and start cooling them down with water before transporting them to a vet.
It is vital to ‘COOL FIRST, TRANSPORT SECOND’ to prevent fatal organ damage.

The 4-Step Emergency Action Plan
1. Stop & Move
* Halt all activity immediately and move your dog to a shaded, well-ventilated area.

2. Actively Cool
* Young, healthy dogs: Pour cool (not freezing) water over their body, or immerse them in shallow, cool water (like a stream), avoiding their head.
* Older dogs or those with health issues: Spray cool water over them and create a breeze with a fan/aircon. Never submerge these dogs fully.
* Important: Do not put wet towels directly over a dog, as this can trap heat and raise their body temperature. Lay them on top of a wet towel instead.

3. Hydrate Safely
* Offer them small, frequent sips of cool water. Do not force them to drink, as they could inhale it.

4. Call Your Vet

🌈Please share🐾

We sadly had a deceased cat brought to the surgery after being found in Three Crosses.

He is a neutered male, white and tabby. He is microchipped, however we haven't been able to contact the owner. The microchip is registered to Llanelli.

Hot Weather Information ☀️

With the weather due to improve, we wanted to share some useful information and advice on looking after your pets during hot weather.

Hot weather can be dangerous for pets, so it’s important to keep them cool, comfortable, and well hydrated.

ANIMALS AT HIGH RISK:

🏃‍♂️ Any animal at exercise
🐶Short nosed breeds
⚖️Overweight animals
😿Animals with underlying conditions
👵Elderly animals
☀️Animals without shade who cannot get out of the sun (especially dangerous are hutches, cages, runs etc.)

TIPS TO KEEP ANIMALS SAFE:

✔️ Make sure there is always access to fresh water
✔️ Keep in shade and avoid direct sunlight (including small pets, rabbit hutches, bird cages etc), close blinds/curtains if necessary
✔️Keep rooms well ventilated
❌ DO NOT EXERCISE dogs in the sun, avoid the hottest parts of the day, ideally wait until the evening or early in the morning. A dog will not die from missing a walk but one walk in hot weather could be fatal
🚗 If you need to travel use aircon if you have it or ensure good ventilation with open windows
❌Never leave any animals in a vehicle. If you see an animal in distress in a vehicle call 999
🖐️Test the tarmac with your hand, if it's too hot for you it's too hot for your pets paws
🦊 Please also spare a thought for wild animals and place bowls of water outside

SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE:

⚠️ Heavy panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Restlessness
⚠️ Bright red or very pale gums
⚠️ Lack of co-ordination
⚠️ Vacant or distant behaviour
⚠️ Seizures

If you are concerned about heatstroke take the animal to a cool well-ventilated area and give small amounts of cool water (not ice cold) to drink. Try to slowly reduce their temperature by gently pouring room temperature water over them or using cool wet towels for them to lay on (do not cover the animal with the towels) and seek immediate veterinary advice.
