Client 3 of 3 from last night's private recall sessions...

The one and only, Storm! Storm, like Mabel, has been part of Happy Tails most of her life! Mabel and Storm have tackled many classes together after meeting in Puppy School πŸ₯°

Storm is an outgoing, confident little girl and as such she takes to her surroundings without any anxiety or worry. It's so lovely that she is so independent, however becomes a slight challenge when Storm's owner wants to recall her in certain situations πŸ˜…

We worked on strengthening her existing recall, overcoming the challenge of her running off when she has come back, had a look at desensitising her to her lead being clipped on and looked at implementing an emergency recall 🐾

Well done Storm, I bet you were tired after running round last night 😁πŸ₯³

Client 2 of 3 for last nights private recall sessions...

Now, Mabel is a dog I have had the pleasure of watching grow and learn with her owner's hard work. She has attended Puppy School and Beginners Scentwork. Her lead walking is amazing and her general training is top tier thanks to the hard work and dedication of her family πŸ₯°

Mabel has good general recall but struggles when other dogs or distractions are involved. Last night we decided to change up the cue which was used to recall her as it wasn't having the desired effect. We also added a hand signal and started conditioning a whistle cue too for options over distance 😁

Over the 45 minutes we changed a selective cue into one that meant a lot more and added some excitement to the situation. We also added the distraction of my dog to the scenario and looked at what sort of threshold Mabel has and the likelihood of her recalling with a dog in the distance 🐾

Mabel and her owners did great, as always 🫢

Client 1 of 3 for tonight's private recall sessions 🐾

This is Buddy. Buddy has a decent recall until you start adding distractions into the mix πŸ˜…

We looked at his current recall, introduced a whistle to strengthen his existing recall, worked on voluntary checks in and put eye contact on a cue πŸ‘€

Once we had mastered some attention when asked, we upped the ante and introduced a distraction into the mix... another dog - my dog πŸ₯°

This led to testing the threshold for Buddy and discussing how to overcome this and ways in which to work towards a closer proximity over time πŸ˜‡

What a delight it was to meet this handsome boy!

I couldn't resist a little play through the tunnels to see if Til could remember her cue 😁

A trip over to Mid Wales Dog Run this evening meant that Tilly and I could spend some time working on our own training and skills 🫢

Tilly had an absolute whale of a time and especially loved having a go on the agility equipment! Once upon a time, we were regulars at agility classes before swapping our focus to mantrailing πŸ‘£

As much as I love helping others with their dogs, it's important that I make time to keep developing my own training too. Tilly is always more than happy to be my training partner! 🐾

Here's a little snippet of us practising our recall, distance cues, and stop cue this evening. Safe to say she had lots of fun β™₯️πŸ₯°

And here is the main man himself β€” the winner of our Beginners Scentwork course πŸ₯³πŸ†

Meet Simba! From the very beginning, Simba took to searching like a natural. His enthusiasm and determination have been a joy to watch, and over the last six weeks he and his mum have worked incredibly hard to develop their skills.

Their dedication has really paid off. Simba's love of searching is a combination of lots of fun practice at home and, of course, the generous supply of cheese he earns for successfully finding the odour source! πŸ§€πŸ½

A huge congratulations to Simba and his mum on a well-deserved win πŸ‘

I also want to take a moment to congratulate all of my wonderful sniffing teams and thank you for making every class such a fun, supportive, and enjoyable place to be. Watching each partnership grow in confidence and skill has been an absolute pleasure.

Now, bring on the Next Steps course! πŸ˜†πŸ’ͺ🐾

Monday also marked the end of our Beginners Scentwork course πŸ₯°

Over the past six weeks, every team has fully embraced the start of their Scentwork journey. Everyone has worked incredibly hard conditioning their dogs to recognise and search for the target odour 🐽

Here is little Storm proudly showing off her third-place ribbon πŸ†

Storm is such a lovely little character, and I've had the pleasure of being part of her training journey since she was a tiny puppy. Watching her grow in confidence and develop her skills has been so rewarding. She is an absolute joy to work with every single time πŸ‘

On Monday evening, we officially wrapped up our Next Steps Scentwork course πŸ‘

Makini and Dottie have been an absolute pleasure to have in class (and their owners too! πŸ˜€)

I feel incredibly lucky to work with such wonderful dogs and dedicated owners in both my classes and one-to-one sessions. It's also been fantastic to see the supportive community that our Scentwork teams are building 🫢

In true Happy Tails fashion, we rounded off the six weeks with a little friendly competition... and this time, Dottie took the win! πŸ†

I'm sure Makini will be looking for a rematch at the next Scentwork Social πŸ˜†πŸ’ͺ

Well done to both for all your hard work and progress over the last six weeks β€” it's been amazing to watch! ✨
