🐴💙 Brave boy Caesar has been facing one of his fears… rugs!

To most of us, a rug doesn’t look particularly frightening, but for Caesar it’s a very different story. He’s extremely nervous around them, so with wetter weather and winter on the way, we’ve been helping him build his confidence through some gentle clicker training.

There’s no rushing Caesar. 💕 The rug is introduced slowly, and he’s given all the time and space he needs to sniff it, investigate it and work things out for himself. Every little step towards it is a big achievement!

Caesar arrived in our care with his donkey friend, Misty, five years ago. They had previously been owned by someone who could sadly no longer meet their needs. Both donkeys were unhandled and incredibly nervous of people, so gaining their trust has taken lots of patience, kindness and understanding.

He might not be ready to model his winter wardrobe just yet… but he’s getting there, one brave little step at a time! 🫏💙

Enrichment fun on the track! 🌱🌳

We’ve recently added some new enrichment to our track, and the ponies have been loving it! 🥰

We’ve also recently started giving the ponies willow branches. 🌳 Willow has a number of potential benefits, including natural pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also fantastic for mental enrichment, as it encourages natural foraging behaviours.

It’s been so lovely watching the ponies investigate, browse and enjoy their new additions! 💚

Hagrid's journey-🐴🎉 Hagrid’s first experience with a headcollar!🐴🎉

Today, Hagrid was introduced to a headcollar for the very first time. ❤️

The first step was simply allowing Hagrid to investigate the headcollar at his own pace, helping him understand that it wasn’t going to hurt him. He was then encouraged to target the headcollar. Hagrid has previously taken part in target training, which has helped build his confidence and prepared him for this moment.

Finally, Hagrid became confident enough to put his nose through the headcollar all by himself! 🥰

This is a fantastic achievement for a pony who arrived unhandled and terrified of people. By taking everything at his own pace and building his confidence step by step, Hagrid continues to make wonderful progress. ❤️🐴

We’re so proud of how far he’s come! 🌟

🏡💕We cannot believe that Bronwen hasn't found her forever home!💕🏡

Sweet little Bronwen is still waiting for that special someone to offer her the loving guardian home she deserves. 🥹🐴

Bronwen is an absolute sweetheart who loves attention and fuss. She’ll happily follow you around the field asking for a scratch and is always pleased to see you! 🥰

Bronwen came to Lluest earlier this year after sadly losing her mum, when her owner reached out to us for help. Despite everything she’s been through, she has been a lovely pony from the very beginning. ❤️

Bronwen is just over 1 year old and is currently around 11hh. She is expected to make approximately 13hh. She is great to catch, lead, groom, and pick up her feet. She is also good for the farrier and vet⭐

🏡Bronwen’s ideal guardian home will have:
• At least one equine companion 🐴
• Someone with experience caring for and handling youngsters

Bronwen has so much love to give — now she just needs someone to give her the forever home she deserves. 💗

🐴Our orphan foal, Ember is four weeks old!🎉❤️

Little Ember is now four weeks old — and has been with us at Lluest for four weeks too! 🥰

Ember had a very difficult start in life. She was found as a tiny foal on a common in an area affected by wildfires. When she arrived at Lluest, she needed round-the-clock care.

She was suffering from conjunctivitis in both eyes, which required medication, as well as multiple blockages. During her first week, she needed daily — and sometimes twice-daily — enemas, including some in the middle of the night. On top of all that, she needed to be fed mare's replacement milk every hour, day and night. ❤️‍🩹

Thankfully, after that rocky first week, things began to turn around.

Four weeks on, Ember’s eyes are completely better, her blockages have resolved, and she has come such a long way. 🐴💕

Best of all, she now has a wonderful foster mare, Moon, by her side. Moon is giving Ember the companionship she needs and teaching her all about how to be a pony. 🌙❤️

Seeing Ember thriving today makes every sleepless night worthwhile.

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support Ember and the other ponies in our care. Your kindness helps make stories like hers possible — we truly couldn’t do it without you. ❤️

This event is not only an important fundraiser but it’s your chance to see first hand what we do and meet the team and the lucky animals given a second chance.

☀️ Throwback to a sunnier day when Hagrid was practising his target training! ☀️

Hagrid has made some amazing progress recently. 🥰 He has progressed from targeting a wooden target to confidently targeting someone’s hand — a huge achievement for a pony who once wouldn’t go near a person, let alone touch one! 💛

Teaching Hagrid to target a hand is an important next step in building his confidence around people and helping him become more comfortable with being touched. We’re so proud of how far he’s come! 🐴✨
