A bucket could become part of your dog’s confidence toolkit! 🪣🐾

Let’s talk “dopamine bucket” a high sided bucket used to build positive associations with handling and cooperative care and also useful for reactive dogs in building resilience are triggers!

We start with treats inside and let the dog choose to pop their head in, with no cue or pressure. Slowly, we build duration before adding gentle touches to prepare for handling at the vets.

It can also be used alongside gradual sound training, starting with fireworks recordings at a very low volume and only progressing while your dog remains comfortable. 🎆

The key? Go at their pace, let them move away whenever they need to, and keep it positive. We’re building confidence and choice, one small step at a time 💪🏼

What a fun filled weekend for the Cosmic clan! 🚀🐾 Well… two of them anyway!

🌟 First up, Nova!

This weekend saw us take on our very FIRST Championship runs! 🥹 And I honestly couldn’t be prouder of us!

Our jumping round ended in an elimination thanks to her silly handler not getting where she needed to be 🤦‍♀️😂 But we managed a non elimination in agility, and I’ll absolutely take that for our first attempt!

Nova was running beautifully for me, and I’m just so proud of how far we’ve come as a team. We’ve officially dipped our toes into the championship world, and it’s safe to say I’m already raring to go for 2027! 🚀

✨ And then there’s our little golden gal, Rhea!

Clearly she likes to keep me waiting because she left it until her VERY LAST run of the weekend to pull out the win she needed to take her to GRADE 4!! 🥹🏆

She’s had such a fantastic 2026 season, and watching her grow in confidence and ability has been an absolute joy. I’m so excited to see where 2027 takes us!

Two very different achievements, but two dogs I’m equally proud of!

And here’s your little reminder that wins are personal, and they don’t always come with a rosette! 🏵️

Four dogs. Same command. Same training method. Four VERY different versions of “play dead” 😂💀

And this is exactly why I love dog training!

You can teach dogs the exact same behaviour, in the exact same way… and still get completely different results. Because every dog brings their own personality, style and interpretation to the game!

So… who do we think deserves the award for BEST “play dead”? 👀🏆

🐀 WHAT ARE WE HUNTING FOR? 🐀

One of the biggest questions we get about Happy Ratters… what exactly is the dog searching for?

The answer a dead rat, safely contained and concealed inside a secure tube. Your dog never comes into direct contact with the rat they simply use their nose to locate the scent.

And an important point… this doesn’t create or increase your dog’s desire to hunt!

🧠 Hunt drive and prey drive are not the same thing.

Hunt drive is the desire to search, scent and locate. Prey drive involves the wider predatory sequence, including behaviours such as chasing and catching.

Happy Ratters gives dogs a controlled outlet to use that incredible nose and natural desire to SEARCH we’re not teaching them to chase or kill rats.
