🐰✨ WE’RE OFFICIALLY RABBIT FRIENDLY! ✨🐰

We’re so excited to share that we have achieved Silver Rabbit Friendly Accreditation with the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF)! 🥳🐇

This is something we’re incredibly proud of, as it recognises the hard work and dedication our team puts into providing high-quality, rabbit-specific care.
So, what does it take to become a Rabbit Friendly Practice? 👇

The RWAF assessment looks at 16 different areas of practice, including:

🐰 Rabbit checks & consultations
🏥 Hospitalisation & ward facilities
💉 Anaesthesia & fluid therapy
🦷 Dentistry
🔬 Imaging & diagnostics
🔪 Surgery
💚 GI stasis management
🌈 End-of-life care
📚 Vet & RVN knowledge
📞 Client communication & out-of-hours care
…and much more!

To achieve Silver accreditation, practices need to demonstrate appropriate knowledge, training, equipment, facilities, protocols and standards of care specifically for rabbits. The assessment also looks at the experience and knowledge of the whole team — from reception through to our vets and nurses.

We’re particularly proud that this accreditation recognises our commitment to understanding rabbits as the unique patients they are, including their behaviour, welfare needs and the importance of reducing stress throughout their visit.

A huge well done to our entire team for all the work that has gone into achieving this! 💚
We’ll continue to build on this and keep improving the care we provide for our wonderful bunny patients. 🐰💕

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Community Day! ❤️

What a fantastic turnout - it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the day with us.

We had loads of little ones getting into the fun with dressing up, the teddy bear clinic, face painting and meeting some amazing exotic pets! 🐢

Families also enjoyed our tours and had the chance to learn more about nutrition and preventative care, with fantastic support from our partners Hills, Elanco and KRKA. A huge thank you to them for helping make the day such a success.

And, of course, a special thank you to everyone who took part in the tombola and the silent auction and helped us raise funds. We’ll keep you updated on the new equipment we’re able to purchase thanks to your generosity - we can’t wait to put it to good use!

Thank you again for making our Community Day such a brilliant day. We hope you all had as much fun as we did! 🐾💙

🐕 Price Changes 🐈

At the University Veterinary Practice, we are committed to providing exceptional care for our patients while supporting the education and development of the next generation of veterinary professionals.

As we look ahead, we are continuing to invest in our people, facilities, equipment and services to ensure we can provide the high-quality care that our clients and patients deserve.

As a not-for-profit veterinary practice, every pound generated is reinvested directly back into patient care, staff development, clinical facilities and student training. These investments help us maintain a sustainable, modern veterinary service for our local community while continuing to offer an outstanding learning environment for future vets and nurses.

🦷 We will introduce you to our brand new dental x-ray machine in August! 🦷

📆 From 1st August 2026, there will be an increase in our prices at the practice.

If you have received an estimate for a procedure in the last 8 weeks or are currently on our dental waiting list, we will honour our old prices.

We would like to thank all our clients for their ongoing support and trust in our team. Your support enables us to continue delivering compassionate, high-quality veterinary care today and into the future. 💙

💙 A huge thank you to one of our wonderful clients for their incredibly generous donation of two Shark fans! 🐾

You may spot one keeping our reception nice and cool, while the other has found a home in our prep area, helping to create a more comfortable environment for our patients and team.

One of the things we love most about these fans is how quiet they are. This makes a real difference for many of our more sensitive patients, particularly rabbits, guinea pigs and nervous cats, who can find loud noises stressful during their visit.

As a not-for-profit university veterinary practice, donations like this allow us to continually improve the care we provide for our patients while also enhancing the teaching facilities used to train the next generation of veterinary surgeons.

We are so grateful for the kindness and support shown by our clients. Thank you for helping us make the practice an even better place for both our patients and our students. 💙🐰🐱

Hot Weather Update for Pet Owners ☀️

With the very high temperatures forecast this week, the welfare of our patients remain our top priority.

As a result, all elective surgeries scheduled for Thursday have been postponed. We will be contacting affected clients directly to rearrange appointments.

We would also ask owners to carefully consider whether their pet needs to attend a routine appointment this week. If you are unsure, please contact the practice and we will be happy to advise.

To minimise time spent in the building during the hottest part of the week, our veterinary students will be spending less time in consultation rooms on Thursday. While supporting student training is incredibly important to us, we want to ensure that patients and clients are not in the practice any longer than necessary.

Heatstroke can be life-threatening. Please take extra care by:
- Avoid walking dogs this week, particularly elderly dogs or those which are brachycephalic or have heart conditions
- If you do walk your dog please only do so at dawn or dusk
- Avoid hot pavements, which can burn paws
- Ensure constant access to fresh water and shade
- Never leave your pet in parked vehicles, even for a few minutes
- Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, collapse or difficulty breathing.

If you are concerned your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, please contact us immediately.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our patients safe during this heatwave ☀️🐾
