HAS YOUR PET SUDDENLY STARTED ITCHING?

Harvest mite larvae are active at this time of the year, and can cause intense irritation as they use their sharp mouthparts to pierce the skin surface and inject powerful digestive enzymes, which cause an allergic reaction.

Check for bright orange dots which tend to congregate:

- between the toes
- on the feet / pads (the most common site), legs, belly, ears
- in the armpits / groin

INTERESTING FACT:

While adult harvest mites live harmlessly in the soil and feed on vegetation, they lay eggs that hatch into tiny, six-legged larvae.

These larvae climb to the tips of long grass and weeds, waiting to swarm onto warm-blooded hosts like dogs, cats, or humans.

TREATMENT:

Harvest mite larvae only feed for a couple of days and then drop off on their own.

The itching however, can last much longer because of the saliva they leave behind.

Physically washing as many off as possible with lukewarm water helps, as does soothing the skin (applying pure inner-leaf aloe vera gel is often good for this) and preventing licking of the affected areas.

PREVENTION:

After walks, check the paws, ears and underside.

Also avoid affected grassy or woodland areas until the harvest-mite season has passed.

There’s something about a dog’s love that is difficult to put into words.

It’s the way they look for you, follow you, trust you and somehow always know when you need them.

Bella has been part of my life for so long, and sometimes I look into those eyes and realise just how much she means to me.

She isn’t just my dog.

She’s my family.

And that quiet, uncomplicated, completely loyal love they give us is something very special indeed.

I hope every dog gets to know that kind of love, and every dog parent gets to feel it looking back at them.

A dog with nearly no teeth and a sensitive tummy.

Its good to know the people who need me, see my posts.
This lady called me as she saw my post about tuna fingers and how they're suitable for dogs with teeth problems. Her dog had his teeth extracted, so he could no longer eat the one treat that didn't upset his very sensitive tummy. After a long conversation I suggested my Tuna Fingers. It was a success and she came back for more. The best bit was hearing the relief and happiness in her voice. 💚🐶💚🐶💚

I’ve been making Darcy’s cakes for around 9 years now, and it’s lovely to see that she still gets just as excited about them!

It’s September… so naturally there’s Christmas stuff all over my kitchen.
This is my attempt at some Christmas product photography for the website. Not quite a glossy magazine shoot, but then again, nothing about For Dogs’ Sake Treats is mass-produced or factory-perfect.
Behind these photos are freshly made Christmas treats, advent calendars, puddings and cookie boxes, all made and packed by me.
And yes, I know some of you are thinking, “Christmas already?!”
Others will be thinking, “Ooh, better get organised.”
Either way, Christmas pre-orders will be opening later this month.

This used to be a regular occurrence when Bella was younger.

These days she only does it if I've stopped to talk to someone for too long.
Her way of saying:
“Oi! It's my walk time, not your natter time!” 😂

She has always been good at making sure I know what she thinks.
