Big news from us! šŸ’«

After an amazing journey together as KSJABC Dog Training, we’ve decided it’s time to take the next step in our careers and grow our own businesses, separately.

🐾 Kat will be continuing with KSJ Pet Services, offering group walks, walk & trainā€˜s, and private training. .petservices

šŸ• Bec will be running Kindred Kanine Training, focusing on private training and online coaching to support owners wherever they are - along side rescue and rehab! .training

We’re so incredibly grateful for every client and every dog who has been part of our KSJABC journey — thank you for your trust, support, and friendship along the way. We are still here to speak to, ask questions and be here for anything you may need! šŸ’™šŸ’œ

This isn’t goodbye! You might still see us teaming up for workshops, social walks, and private training sessions in the future.

It’s the end of an era, but the start of something new — and we can’t wait for what’s ahead. 🐶✨

Thankyou Wizz Dog Training for another great workshop!😃

Socialisation Before Vaccines – Why We’re Not Waiting

This is Dottie, my puppy, out and about in her pram as she learns what everyday life looks like.

She had her first vaccination today. Her next is in 4 weeks, and then it’ll be another 10 days after that before she’s allowed on the ground. That’s a total of over 5 weeks of waiting – which might sound sensible from a health perspective, but it’s not great from a behavioural one.

Here’s why we’re not staying shut indoors:
• The socialisation window is short – it peaks around 8–16 weeks of age. It’s the time when puppies are most open to new experiences and learning what’s normal.
• Missing this window can lead to fear and reactivity later – puppies who aren’t exposed to the world during this period often grow up unsure or scared of things like traffic, people, dogs, and new places.
• Waiting until post-vaccines means missing it entirely – if we waited until Dottie could touch the ground, she’d be past the most important time for building confidence.

So instead, here’s what we’re doing:
• Taking her out for normal life – no ā€˜socialisation trips’, just daily life: coming to training, popping into shops, traffic noises, dogs in the park, cafĆ© stops, coming car shopping all from her pram.
• Keeping her off the floor – she’s protected from infection risks but fully immersed in the world she’ll live in.
• Letting her see and hear, not touch and meet – observing the world calmly builds confidence without overwhelming her.
• No pressure, no overload – she can retreat and rest in her pram whenever she needs it, but she’s right there taking it all in.

Vaccinations protect her physically. Socialisation protects her mentally and emotionally. Both matter.
So Dottie’s doing what she’ll do as an adult – just with a better view🤣.

Last week can only be described as actual hell on earth.

Sienna passed away on Tuesday morning from bloat. It was so fast and so unexpected—it completely threw me for a loop. The rest of the week felt like a fever dream.

Then yesterday, I was scrolling on my phone and came across an urgent ad for a new home for an 8-week-old puppy. Less than two hours later, Kat and I were on our way to pick up the little girlie.

She was definitely another unexpected twist to the week—but this time, a very welcome one.

I know so many of you adored Sienna when you met her during our sessions. She was such a big presence, the epitome of chaos, and that’s exactly what made her so loveable.

I’m excited for you all to meet the new baby (who still needs a name!).

It’s been a week I’d never want to relive—but there’s a tiny smidge of light at the end of a dark tunnel. šŸ’œ
