The second big job of the day

We have found the source of the flooding in the Activity Zone.

The water table is high and water is pushing up through the ground (we have the same issue just outside the Adventure Zone pond)

The only way to solve this is drainage (sending the water somewhere else) and increasing the ground level

This will be finished in the morning

The good news - we are hopeful the changes will facilitate parking within the Activity Zone for one car

First job of the day in the pouring rain

This is potentially the cause of all the flooding

The overflow pipe from the Adventure Zone pond to the stream was completely blocked with huge sticks. Knee deep in water with our drainage rods and this!

The stream is now flowing really quickly, the rain has stopped and the sun ☀️ has made an appearance

A much happier dog park owner now

The next job - the drainage in the Activity Zone - more updates to follow This is a job for the machines!

Maintenance update

We have 2 days scheduled at Zoomies 7 am - 3 pm with the help of our trusted groundsperso, Thursday and Friday this week. I will be back driving my favourite the dumper!

We have blocked out the availability we need so you are find to book any slots available on the calendar but you may find that availability is limited in all 4 parks.

We have a fairly long list of planned jobs the main being

1. Rebuild the embankment around the swim pond in the Adventure Zone.

2. Resolve the drainage around the swim pond.

3. Create parking for one car within the Activity Zone (which should resolve the flooding we have experienced after heavy rain).

It is inevitable that the machinery will create a bit of a mess but we have been stock piling bark/chip to create paths of this.

More exciting is the work planned hopefully for November. A willow maze. We will need to spend a day trimming the willow along the fence line and around the swim pond. We are hoping we can repair the willow tunnels and dome in the Action Zone and with the remainder start work on a maze in the Woodland Zone. In a couple of years we are hopeful it looks something like the photo!

Zoomies Christmas community initiative

We have decided to allocate £500 to gift vouchers to be used by local schools for Christmas fund raising and raffle prizes

We have already given away 2 £50 gift vouchers for schools in West Derby and Runcorn - Zoomies is a family business and we have 2 teachers in the family.

The Activity Zone flooding at the entrance has drained away although the ground at the entrance is very wet. The rest of the field is fine

The water should drain in the Adventure Zone swim pond but it’s still causing flooding in there so more work needed this week

1 please don’t let your dog dig holes They are a safety risk. If a person or dog puts a foot / leg in the hole it could cause a serious injury. At 7 am this morning we were filling in these holes but with fresh soil which we can’t grass seed now it could easily be dug out again so your dogs need to be watched

2 there is a lot of damage to the artificial grass in the Action Zone which is so disappointing. This field has been open over 2 years and we haven’t experienced a problem before. Someone has either let their dog doing this or hasn’t been watching them.. either way it is unacceptable. There is a cost of repairing this as well as our time and closing the field to carry out the repairs. Unless the culprit owns up if we track down the customer who is responsible they will be banned

A full day at Zoomies for our maintenance team

A few hours were dedicated to the Adventure Zone

1 making sure the stream is flowing

2 creating a gravel trench from the flooded area outside the pond alongside the fence The water should be gone by tonight and the mud should dry out

3 we have started to rebuild one side of the pond embankment which has eroded using large blocks of sandstone (the side which remains locked). When we can (it’s a job for machinery ) we will raise the embankment with new soil.

No photos of the work - it wasn’t a pretty sight and we were head to toe covered in mud, so just an old photo of the pond in its former glory !
