Please read… Tyson is just one of many dogs in council pounds facing euthanasia this week. We will save this boy, but there were more on the list yesterday that we cannot take. Their fate hangs in the balance.
This isn’t just happening in our area, it’s happening up and down the UK. If you are not in our fostering area please get in touch with a rescue near you. They too will receive the pleas from pound pullers who are trying to save their lives.
Without people coming forward and offering temporary fosters or homes for these dogs there is no hope.
The UK rescue system is full to overflowing. A council pound is legally obliged to keep a stray dog for 7 days to allow them to be claimed. After those 7 days the clock is ticking because more dogs come in every single day and kennel spaces are very limited.
Our hearts go out to everyone working in council pounds and the pound pullers who desperately try to place dogs with rescues. No one goes into rescue to end the life of a healthy dog. Theirs is one of the hardest jobs.
It’s also hard being on the receiving end of their pleas too. You see the dogs’ faces and look into their eyes knowing you might be able to save one at best. Only a couple of our team review these emails because it is so emotionally draining.
So what can people do to help?
🏡 Contact your local rescue and offer to go on their foster books
🏡🐶 Offer to adopt a bull breed - it is only with forever homes that any of us can keep rescuing more (if you cannot meet the criteria of a larger rescue try the smaller independent rescues like ourselves who consider every application on its merits)
💜 Be mindful in the comments and respect that most rescues have rehoming areas that they have to stick to for practical reasons
🙏 Share the posts so they reach as wide an audience as possible
🐶 Rescue, rescue, rescue. Don’t buy dogs from breeders who are only adding to the problem - be part of creating the change
