With Winter fast approaching, our opportunities to fundraise decrease while our costs rise, so we are always looking for alternative ways to help us through the most difficult months of the year.
Having already skydived, ziplined, bungee jumped and abseiled to raise thousands of pounds for Shy Lowen over the years, Trustee Shelley is running out of ways to fling herself from great heights for the benefit of the horses...
So this year, on October the 11th, Shelley has found the perfect setting to go from the ground up, as she will be climbing a Kelpie!
For anyone unfamiliar, The Kelpies are the largest equine sculptures in the world - 2 giant steel horse heads located in Falkirk, Scotland standing at 30m (98ft) tall. They are the work of Glasgow artist Andy Scott, and were inspired by the mythical shapeshifting water-horses of Scottish folklore as well as being a tribute to the huge contribution Clydesdale horses made to building Scotland's infrastructure and industry. They are even named after the 2 retired working Clydesdales who modelled for them - Duke and Baron.
Shelley will be completing an assault course climbing up the inside of Baron - the 'head up' Kelpie - before popping out at the top to take in the view literally straight from the horse's mouth! She will then descend by going back inside and jumping off a platform to complete a free hanging abseil or 'quick flight' rope drop back to the ground, so she still has to throw herself off something even after all that!
It's been 3 years since Shelley's last challenge, she's not getting any younger and Scotland's cold, wet weather at this time of year is legendary, so we think she deserves your sponsorship! She has covered all costs of the challenge herself, so all funds raised will go directly to Shy Lowen to support our important work with horses and humans.
Please sponsor her for any amount, however large or small, to help her reach her target!
Evidence will be provided!
