Exciting times here at Dee's! πŸ’™

Some of you will know I've been quietly planning a little upgrade for a while, and I'm thrilled to say it's finally in, plumbed and ready to go. Meet our brand new grooming bath! 🐾

What I love most about it isn't the shiny steel (although I'll admit I've been polishing it more than strictly necessary πŸ˜„). It's how much easier it makes things for the dogs. There's a walk-in door and a gentle, non-slip ramp, so no more lifting or hoisting. Dogs can simply stroll in at their own pace, with plenty of encouragement (and the odd treat) from me.

This makes such a difference for my older dogs with stiff joints, the bigger lads and lasses who don't love being lifted, and those who are a little nervous and like to feel in control of things. Bath time should be calm and comfortable, never a struggle, and this new set-up helps make that happen.

As you can see from the photo, it's already been thoroughly inspected by my resident quality control officer, who has given it a cautious paws up 🐢

If you've been wondering whether grooming might suit your older or anxious dog, do drop me a message on WhatsApp or give me a call on 07717 686171. I'd love to have a chat and introduce them to the new bath, one dog at a time, no rushing, just as always.

This little lady is one of the Broken Biscuits crew, and she's already stolen a very big piece of my heart.

Cupcake is still just a puppy, but she has incontinence because her bladder can't quite seal off properly, which means she leaks constantly. It's not something she can help. The hope is that once she's old enough, and enough money has been raised, she'll be able to have an operation to put it right. It isn't guaranteed to fix things, but fingers and paws crossed for her 🐾

I went to give Cupcake her very first groom the other day, and honestly, she was an absolute angel. New sounds, new smells, a stranger fussing over her, and she took the whole lot in her stride like she'd been doing it for years. For such a little dog with so much going on, she was a joy to spend time with.

Dogs like Cupcake need a bit of extra care and understanding, and I'm always happy to take things slowly and gently. If you've got a pup with additional needs, or one who just needs a calm, unhurried pamper, drop me a message on WhatsApp or give me a ring on 07717 686171.

Sending Cupcake and all the Broken Biscuits gang lots of love πŸ’™

Look at this gorgeous girl - Cookie looking much lighter after her groom! πŸ’™ She sat so beautifully for her photos, you'd never know I'd just given her the full works. That apricot coat of hers just glows when it's freshly washed and trimmed.

Cookie is always such a pleasure to have in - such a good girl through and through. Thank you for trusting me with your beautiful girl! 🐾

If your dog could do with some pampering of their own, drop me a message on WhatsApp or give me a ring - always happy to have a chat.

This gorgeous girl is Bella 🐾 She's a rescue from Romania, and life wasn't kind to her before she found her forever home here. She came with a lot of fear, especially around being touched, and it's not hard to understand why when you know what she's been through.

Bella has to be sedated for her grooms now, and that's not about making things easier for me, it's purely about her welfare and comfort. She's an old lady too, so between her age and her history, a calm and stress-free groom is the only kind worth doing.

She was an absolute sweetheart, ever so sleepy, and I was able to do most of her groom with her lying down nice and peacefully. I only needed her up on her feet briefly, with a bit of support, to get underneath her, her paws, and the insides of her legs.

It's a real privilege to be trusted with the gentle ones who've had a hard start. Well done, Bella, you did so well πŸ’™

Well, it seems she was a fussy queen! πŸ‘‘

The swarm that appeared in our garden has moved on! Every year without fail we get at least one wild swarm passing through, so I think we must be right on a bee highway somewhere between here and wherever they're headed. 🐝

For those who don't know, this time of year is prime swarming season. When a hive gets too crowded, the old queen takes roughly half the colony with her and sets off to find a new home. It's completely natural, and actually a sign of a healthy, thriving hive.

If you ever see a swarm resting, hanging in a big cluster from a tree branch or fence post, please don't panic and don't disturb them. They're not aggressive; they have no home to defend at that point. They're simply resting while their scout bees look for somewhere suitable to set up properly. Usually they're gone within a day or two.

My other hive is looking a little quieter than usual at the moment, which makes sense - it's probably lost more than half its bees to a swarm, and those left behind will be working hard to raise a new queen. It takes time and patience, but they know exactly what they're doing. Nature usually does. 🌼

In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on things and hope a wild swarm fancies moving into that empty hive sitting ready and waiting!

Well, we've had some surprise visitors at the bottom of the garden! 🐝

A wild swarm has decided one of our empty hives looks rather inviting - they're clustered just outside it at the moment, having a good look around. We've popped some sugar syrup in the top and a little water nearby to encourage them in, and now it's just a case of being patient and letting them decide in their own time.

Fingers crossed they make themselves at home. There's something quite magical about a swarm choosing you, isn't there? 🀞

I'll keep you posted on how they get on! 🐾

Grooming tip #47: How to keep a Springer Spaniel still whilst drying. 🐾

Now, I know what you're thinking - ear defenders? Calming music? Years of patient training?
No.
A chicken.

Specifically, one of mine wandering past the window at exactly the right moment. Works every time. Absolutely transfixed. Not a single wriggle - which, if you've ever dried a Springer, you'll know is practically a miracle. 🐢
